The purpose of the present edition of this book is as a reference for adopters of the Official Robert's Rules of Order Rulebook (Gregory Berry, Ed.), also available on amazon, which is intended for adoption as the official rules of assemblies (meetings, boards, conventions, etc.) (rather than the ponderous, impossible-to-use "Newly Revised 11th Edition" of Robert's Rules of Order).This version is all you need to run your assembly. The "Newly Revised 11th Edition" of Robert's Rules of Order has no place in any assembly. It was conceived cynically to maintain the copyrights of these rules in the Robert family, and as such is almost unusable. This book has all the rules you need (in one-fifth the space of the 11th Ed. Newly Revised [130 pages rather than 700]), and Part II of this book is an effective primer for those new to parliamentary procedure (which is entirely lacking in the 11th Ed. Newly Revised). However, the editor suggests that this book be purchased along with its companion book, the Official Robert's Rules of Order Rulebook, which has reorganized the rules in rule format, and is designed specifically for adoption by an assembly as its official parliamentary rules of procedure. A parliamentarian will find the two books work well together. The present book contains fuller explanations of the rules in the Rulebook, and is also of historical interest for parliamentary scholars.
