The Spirit of the Sixties explains how and why the personal became political when Sixties activists confronted the institutions of American postwar culture. The Spirit of the Sixties uses political personalism to explain how and why the personal became political when Sixties activists confronted the institutions of American postwar culture. After establishing its origins in the Catholic Worker movement, the Beat generation, the civil rights movement, and Ban-the-Bomb protests, James Farrell demonstrates the impact of personalism on Sixties radicalism. Students, antiwar activists and counterculturalists all used personalist perspectives in the "here and now revolution" of the decade. These perspectives also persisted in American politics after the Sixties. Exploring the Sixties not just as history but as current affairs, Farrell revisits the perennial questions of human purpose and cultural practice contested in the decade.

Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King's use of the term "somebodyness" in his speeches and books, I deemed it to be the perfect title for these pages of critical information imprinting the greatness, the battles, the tenacity of Black people. Reflecting back on my childhood education and observing the education of today's black youth I felt that we were robbed a great deal of learning an insurmountable depth of Black history. This book introduces the immense greatness of some unknown faces and unheard names and events. It provides a deeper position of brilliance and leadership among the immeasurable struggle of Blacks throughout time in America. It details the short stories of some courageous thinkers and fighters. In slavery, the Reconstruction, Jim Crow, the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights, Black people have persevered and withstood some of the greatest hardships and gallantly gave themselves to secure the betterment of the Black Race. With creativity, intelligence and an undying will they endured the dangers of racism, its evilness, immorality, terror and oppression, to proclaim their humanity and redeem their rights. This information allows the reader to unveil the true greatness of Black life and understand its painful, yet dignified position. It would be easy to say that these stories have been forgotten, except that they have never been told. An average education of a Black child was and still is, absent of the various representation of excellence, heroics, leadership, sacrifice, value and a remarkable sense of somebodyness.

Pediatric Ethics Theory And Practice written by Nico Nortjé and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-01 with Philosophy categories.

This book assists health care providers to understand the specific interplay of the roles and relationships currently forming the debates in pediatric clinical ethics. It builds on the fact that, unlike adult medical ethics, pediatric ethics begins within an acutely and powerfully experienced dynamic of patient-family-state-physician relationship. The book provides a unique perspective as it interacts with established approaches as well as recent developments in pediatric ethics theory, and then explores these developments further through cases. The book first focuses on setting the stage by introducing a theoretical framework and elaborating how pediatric ethics differ from non-pediatric ethics. It approaches different theoretical frameworks in a critical manner drawing on their strengths and weaknesses. It helps the reader in developing an ability to engage in ethical reasoning and moral deliberation in order to focus on the wellbeing of the child as the main participant in the ethical deliberation, as well as to be able to identify the child’s moral claims. The second section of the book focuses on the practical application of these theoretical frameworks and discusses specific areas pertaining to decision-making. These are: the critically ill child, new and enduring ethical controversies, and social justice at large, the latter of which includes looking at the child’s place in society, access to healthcare, social determinants of health, and vaccinations. With the dynamic changes and challenges pediatric care faces across the globe, as well as the changing face of new technologies, no professional working in the field of pediatrics can afford not to take due note of this resource.

Humanism written by Anthony B. Pinn and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-27 with Philosophy categories.

Who are the "Nones"? What does humanism say about race, religion and popular culture? How do race, religion and popular culture inform and affect humanism? The demographics of the United States are changing, marked most profoundly by the religiously unaffiliated, or what we have to come to call the "Nones". Spread across generations in the United States, this group encompasses a wide range of philosophical and ideological perspectives, from some in line with various forms of theism to those who are atheistic, and all sorts of combinations in between. Similar changes to demographics are taking place in Europe and elsewhere. Humanism: Essays on Race, Religion and Popular Culture provides a much-needed humanities-based analysis and description of humanism in relation to these cultural markers. Whereas most existing analysis attempts to explain humanism through the natural and social sciences (the "what" of life), Anthony B. Pinn explores humanism in relation to "how" life is arranged, socialized, ritualized, and framed. This ground-breaking publication brings together old and new essays on a wide range of topics and themes, from the African-American experience, to the development of humanist churches, and the lyrics of Jay Z.
