How might school funds be spent more effectively in today’s uncertain environment? This up-to-date volume explores a range of ideas to help schools and districts better manage their resources, including: how to rethink staffing and management to get more value for employee compensation; how policymakers might revisit pension arrangements in ways that control costs while putting more teacher compensation in the form of take-home pay; how educators and policymakers can leverage technology as a performance-enhancer and not just a cost-cutting opportunity; and how districts might frame spending options differently in order to more properly assess the needs and preferences of students and families. As American education enters the next decade of challenges, including shortfalls due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Getting the Most Bang From the Education Buck will be a valuable guide for how to spend dollars wisely and well. Contributors: Chad Aldeman, Bryan Hassel, Emily Hassel, Matthew Ladner, Nathan Levenson, Michael Q. McShane, Scott Milam, Karen Hawley Miles, Katie Morrison-Reed, Marguerite Roza, Carrie Stewart, and Adam Tyner. “Finally, a book that gets beyond the academic debate about whether money matters in education (spoiler alert: It does) to offer suggestions for how to make scarce education dollars matter more. This book offers practical solutions to real-world problems like outdated staffing models, declining enrollments, and increasing special education costs, along with frameworks for tackling other tough resource-allocation challenges.” —Carrie Conaway, senior lecturer on education, Harvard Graduate School of Education

Rip Gop written by Stanley B. Greenberg and has been published by Thomas Dunne Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-10 with Political Science categories.

A leading pollster and adviser to America’s most important political figures explains why the Republicans will crash in 2020. For decades the GOP has seen itself in an uncompromising struggle against a New America that is increasingly secular, racially diverse, and fueled by immigration. It has fought non-traditional family structures, ripped huge holes in the social safety net, tried to stop women from being independent, and pitted aging rural Evangelicals against the younger, more dynamic cities. Since the 2010 election put the Tea Party in control of the GOP, the party has condemned America to years of fury, polarization and broken government. The election of Donald Trump enabled the Republicans to make things even worse. All seemed lost. But the Republicans have set themselves up for a shattering defeat. In RIP GOP, Stanley Greenberg argues that the 2016 election hurried the party’s imminent demise. Using amazing insights from his focus groups with real people and surprising revelations from his own polls, Greenberg shows why the GOP is losing its defining battle. He explores why the 2018 election, when the New America fought back, was no fluke. And he predicts that in 2020 the party of Lincoln will be left to the survivors, opening America up to a new era of renewal and progress.

Do you ever feel exhausted and drowsy, like you need more sleep? If you do, you're not alone. A recent study by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) found that 60 percent of people under the age of eighteen complained of daytime tiredness. Fifteen percent (one out of every seven) said they were so tired they fell asleep in school. You may think that not getting sufficient sleep is no big deal, but think again. According to the National Sleep Foundation, sleep deprivation can put you at high risk for unintentional injury and death, low grades and poor school performance, negative moods, and increased likelihood of stimulant use. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration views driving drowsy as actually more dangerous, and more deadly, than driving drunk! What is sleep? Why do we need it? What causes sleep deprivation and how can it be avoided? What are its tragic results? This book answers these and other questions by using a readable blend of real-life accounts, easy-to-understand statistics, scientific data, and practical suggestions.

This book presents the story of Gladys January Willisfrom early childhood to retirement as a university professor and administrator. It chronicles her experiences as a Black girl born and reared in Jackson, Mississippi, as well as her educational sojourn in college and graduate schools, and a career in higher education and entrance into Christian ministry as an ordained chaplain. In Chapter IX of the book, Willis writes: It is no secret that in my racist and segregated community the majorityWhite system promoted its message loudly and clearlyon the public buses, in the segregated school system, in employment practices, in segregated eateries, in housing developments, in business transactions, and in the political arena. One of the most impacting experiences in my life, after the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, was that of exercising my right to vote. Because of the cherished right to vote as an American citizen, whenever there is an election, exercising my right to vote is a top priority. I am sure that my Black home environment played a vital role in the way I came to think about life in general and my own life in particular. She credits her maternal grandmother, Henrietta Young Hedrick, as her primary role model. Mama, as she was called, was a proud Black woman who demanded that she be respected. Her boldness was undaunted and communicated her respect for herself and her demand for the same from others, regardless of who they were or their station in life.

What you'll find inside this book is a collection of stories giving glory to God for His vision to start a Christ-centered school in the Edison neighborhood. This neighborhood of ten thousand people is the poorest, most diverse, most crime-ridden in its county. But a great source of hope started in 2010 at the new elementary school called Tree of Life. Although they started with twelve students in rented classrooms, within three years, they have grown to fifty students in a brand-new state-of-the-art facility. Learn of one miracle after another and God's love for the children and families at Tree of Life. "I want a Christian school in the inner city of Kalamazoo, and I want it to be affordable to anyone." --God. When the Lord spoke these words to me in 2003, I had no idea how my life and thousands of others would be changed forever. As the founder of Tree of Life School, God has taken me and many others on a wild journey that has intense highs and lows. Through the pages of this book, I want to share some miraculous things that God is doing in and through Tree of Life School.
