Uncovering an ancient foundation myth, and literary tour de force, obscured within the modern Bible. Embedded within the Bible lies a largely unknown story of the founding of ancient Israel and its religion, interwoven with other ancient tales more than two thousand years ago in the process of creating the Torah. Generations of scholars have painstakingly worked to recreate the “Priestly Source,” also known as “P.” The complete text has not appeared until now on its own in either Hebrew or English. Beginning with the creation of the world and ending at the edge of the promised land, the Priestly Source offers a distinctive account of the origins of the people of Israel and a unique perspective on their relationship with their god, Yahweh—one in stark contrast to what is found when we read the Bible now. With a translation by Liane Feldman, an authority on the text, The Consuming Fire reveals the mythical foundation for the practice of sacrifice in ancient Israelite and Jewish religion. By presenting this fascinating material on its own, The Consuming Fire offers an opportunity to expand our understanding of ancient traditions and to find something new and beautiful at the source.

God is desirous of His people going deeper into His heart and being completely consumed with His pure fire. To be an individual after His heart speaks of being passionate about His desires and intents. I can tell you from the spiritual experiences and encounters God has so graciously allowed me to participate with Him in that there is no competition or human jealousy element to anything that transpires at the Throne of God in heaven. All of heaven has a laser-like focus and passionately desires for mankind to know and function in the eternal plan of God. It is a privilege to know God's plan and live in His heart. May we all be consumed by His fire and jealousy to see individuals all over the world come to know His plan and purpose for their lives.

A Consuming Fire written by Eugene D. Genovese and has been published by University of Georgia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-15 with History categories.

The fall of the Confederacy proved traumatic for a people who fought with the belief that God was on their side. Yet, as Eugene D. Genovese writes in A Consuming Fire, Southern Christians continued to trust in the Lord's will. The churches had long defended "southern rights" and insisted upon the divine sanction for slavery, but they also warned that God was testing His people, who must bring slavery up to biblical standards or face the wrath of an angry God. In the eyes of proslavery theorists, clerical and lay, social relations and material conditions affected the extent and pace of the spread of the Gospel and men's preparation to receive it. For proslavery spokesmen, "Christian slavery" offered the South, indeed the world, the best hope for the vital work of preparation for the Kingdom, but they acknowledged that, from a Christian point of view, the slavery practiced in the South left much to be desired. For them, the struggle to reform, or rather transform, social relations was nothing less than a struggle to justify the trust God placed in them when He sanctioned slavery. The reform campaign of prominent ministers and church laymen featured demands to secure slave marriages and family life, repeal the laws against slave literacy, and punish cruel masters. A Consuming Fire analyzes the strength, weakness, and failure of the struggle for reform and the nature and significance of southern Christian orthodoxy and its vision of a proper social order, class structure, and race relations.

What is the eternal punishment of the lost? What is the eternal life that God promises his people? What is this “hell” which is claimed as part of Christian belief but goes against our sense of justice and rightness? Why were Adam and Eve thrown out of Eden? Can a God of love send most of those he has made in his own image to a place of nonstop torment? What is the connection between the current heaven and earth and the new heaven and earth that God promises? Beginning with the tree of life, and taking Hebrews 12.29, “Our God is a consuming fire,” as his pivotal text, Michael Greed addresses these and similar questions. His central argument is that there is only one fire in the Bible—our God, who is a consuming, purifying fire.

Nothing about this power struggle will be simple or easy . . . and all of human civilization is at stake. Continue the space adventure trilogy with The Last Emperox.
