The extraordinary inside story of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda in the years after 9/11. Following the attacks on the Twin Towers, Osama bin Laden, the most wanted man in the world, eluded intelligence services and Special Forces units for almost a decade. Using remarkable, first-person testimony from bin Laden's family and closest aides, The Exile chronicles this astonishing tale of evasion, collusion and isolation. In intimate detail, The Exile reveals not only the frantic attack on Afghanistan by the United States in their hunt for bin Laden but also how and why, when they found his family soon after, the Bush administration rejected the chance to seize them. It charts the formation of ISIS, and uncovers the wasted opportunity to kill its Al Qaeda-sponsored founder; it explores the development of the CIA's torture programme; it details Iran's secret shelter for bin Laden's family and Al Qaeda's military council; and it captures the power struggles, paranoia and claustrophobia within the Abbottabad house prior to the raid. A landmark work of investigation and reportage, The Exile is as authoritative as it is compelling, and essential reading for anyone concerned with history, security and future relations with the Islamic world.

The "eXile" is the controversial tabloid founded by Ames and Taibbi that "Rolling Stone" has called "cruel, caustic, and funny" and "a must-read." In the tradition of gonzo journalists like Hunter S. Thompson, the authors cover everything from decadent club scenes to the nation's collapsing political and economic systems--no one is spared. Illustrations.

In this “psychological mind bender,” a Kafkaesque crisis of identity transports a famous actor from 1980s Hollywood to Nazi Germany (The Washington Post). At forty-five, Hollywood film star David Caspian should be basking in his success. Instead, his career is souring as he stresses over the next generation of actors eager to replace him. Losing himself in waking fantasies, David slips through a crack in time, awakening in the back alleys of Hitler’s Berlin. He is no longer David Caspian. He has become Felix, a ruthless black marketeer. With the Gestapo closing in on him, David races against time—and space—as he fights to take control of Felix before Felix takes control of him. Witty, macabre, and utterly thrilling, The Exile is a mesmerizing novel that will leave readers wondering where reality ends and fiction begins. People wrote that when William Kotzwinkle “is the author, readers can be sure only that the book in question will be different from everything else.” But even among the award-winning author’s work, this bracing satire stands out for the sweep of its vision, full of “comedy, despair, horror and technical storytelling delight” (The New York Times Book Review). “The book becomes glued to the reader’s hands as the devastating climactic scenes pile one on another. . . . Powerful writing.” —The Washington Post Book World

After his disastrous Russian campaign of 1812, Napoleon returns to France to find a country under attack from the rest of Europe -- and from within. With the enemy massing on the shores of the Marne, the reduced forces of Mortier and Marmont turn back towards Paris, and Augereau retreats to Valence. Meanwhile, Bordeaux is occupied by Wellington's men, ably supported by Spanish and Portuguese troops, and the Russians, Prussians and Austrians are converging on the French capital. Elsewhere, Davout has hidden himself away in Hamburg, Prince Eugene's army is trudging across Italy, and Murat is negotiating with Austria to save his Neapolitan throne. Holland is in revolt, Sweden is a threat -- and French royalists are openly declaiming the Emperor's reign over. Indeed, they would seem to be right, for the Allies force Napoleon to admit defeat; ceding power, he is exiled to the Isle of Elba. However, amid all the spies, lies, rumour and uncertainty, nothing can be taken for granted, and certainly not where Bonaparte is concerned. While his enemies underestimate him and assume he is finished, the man himself is simply biding his time -- scheming, plotting, dreaming -- for the Battle of Waterloo is less than a year away.

The Exile S Papers The Dirt S Passion Is Flesh Sorrow written by Wayne Clifford and has been published by The Porcupine's Quill this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-14 with Poetry categories.

Wayne Clifford’s The Exile’s Papers first appeared in 2007 with the publication of The Duplicity of Autobiography, but this creative project – a four-part series of hundreds of surreal, straightforward, narrative or mythic, and endlessly varying sonnets – is the culmination of decades of effort. In 2009 the series continued with The Face As Its Thousand Ships, and now emerges the third installment: The Dirt’s Passion Is Flesh Sorrow. Described by critics as ‘resonant’, ‘striking’, ‘quixotic’, ‘elegant’, ‘ribald’ and ‘jazzy’, Clifford’s sonnets defy categories or boundaries. He is a master of the form and every page is an example of how a great poet can use a complicated structure to achieve depth of thought, beauty and explosive resolutions (or, in many cases, questions). In fact, every poem reinvents the sonnet itself, and, despite all poems sharing the same form, each one is sharply, conclusively differentiated from the others. These are sonnets like you’ve never read before. Clifford often draws on his own life experiences – fatherhood, love, death and uncertainty – but he also has plenty to say about God, pop culture and the foolhardiness of certain current political figures. In the end, though, the collection remains a remarkably cohesive, intelligent and death-defying foray into an ancient form that never knew what hit it.
