Jon Bradburn, a former air traffic controller at England’s Manchester Airport, is picked up by aliens from the planet Zel. After interrogation, he is persuaded to become a “teacher of men.” It’s become obvious to the Zellians that humankind is nearing the point where self-destruction is imminent, consuming Earth in atomic warfare. Jon is the last in a long line of “teachers” provided by the Zellians, being “prepared and modified” mentally and physically for the role he will have to play. He is endowed with superhuman strength and intelligence, as well as the promise of longevity beyond that of all men. Accompanied by a young female Zellian (only eighty years old) named Lana, who will be Jon’s mentor and companion until the stability of Earth is assured, Jon sets out to educate the men of all nations how to live in peace. But first all nuclear weapons must be disabled or destroyed. As the teacher, Jon is in contact with the most powerful leaders in the world, particularly Davis Cooper, president of the United States, who proves to be a staunch ally. Their aim is to bring peace, prosperity, and long life to all humankind. Is their dream possible?

A truth teacher's lonely struggle against hypocrisy and abuse ”The last Teacher” is the drama of a high school teacher forced to deal with a gang of bullies, a beautiful and too uninhibited girl, their dissolute parents, a corrupt and hostile principal, and several colleagues who pretend not to see what is going on in the school out of fear, hypocrisy and self-interest. Rigid and somewhat out of touch, but deeply honest, he is enemy number one on the ”animal farm” definitively devoted to single-mindedness, and therefore pays his defense of the truth at a very high price. Funny, poignant, charming and deeply sad at times, this is a fascinating insight into a teaching life. With his sharp wit and poet's eye, Tim Heath writes of a forty-year career, mostly in New Zealand but also in Samoa. He's worked in small country schools, in big city schools, at the Correspondence School, in primary schools and in secondary schools. He's been a principal and a deputy principal. Teaching wasn't his first choice, but once in the classroom he found his calling. Tim is a passionate advocate for children and their learning, and his educational philosophy is illustrated through touching anecdotes of children and their struggles and successes. Written against the backdrop of changing times in New Zealand, this memoir is a deep dive into education and its place in our world.

Since Brown v. The Board of Education of Topeka in 1954, continued resistance to desegregation has resulted in additional racialized policies, ideologies, and practices related to deficit thinking. Efforts to resist desegregation coincided with efforts to destroy Black Career Educators through systemic racism, marginalization, and indicators that they were unsuitable, unlicensed, inexperienced, and barely qualified to instruct Black children. In the year 2020, the largest generation of Black Career Educators will retire and exit public schools thus removing the only advocates for the majority population, Black and Hispanic students. The complex and dominant resistance to Brown, the failure of desegregation and equality in public education for students of color, and the need to retain white supremacy is evident today as students of color disproportionately experience higher rates of expulsion, suspension, and disciplinary actions resulting from racialized policies that dismantle career opportunities related to the future of work and support the school-to-prison pipelines. After thirty-six years as a Black Career Educator, in both secondary and collegiate education environments, I share in living color the results from racialized education policies directed toward Black Career Educators and students of color. In addition, I address the social-psychological impact on both teachers and students of color - especially issues related to teacher victimization, mental health, and racial microaggressions.

The Power to Save a Life Jacob Chastain grew up in an environment filled with drugs and violence. Inside the home that should have felt safe, fear and anxiety were the desperate norm. Stability and security eluded him as he was shuffled between family and friends that would take him in. But at school, things were different. There, day after day, year after year, Chastain's teachers saved him. Teach Me, Teacher is the true story of a childhood marked by heartache--a story that may be similar to that of the children sitting in your classroom. It's the story that shaped Jacob Chastain into the educator he is today. Lessons learned from his experiences as a child and as a growing educator offer reflections on the trials and triumphs facing teachers and students everywhere. From these lessons, we learn that one's darkest moments can ultimately lead to a meaningful and fulfilling life when someone cares enough to step in and make a difference. Written in celebration of teachers and the power of education, Teach Me, Teacher affirms that you have the power to save a life. "Jacob Chastain pours his heart out on the pages of Teach Me, Teacher by sharing his personal journey through childhood trauma. His message that "action is the antidote to suffering" is a powerful reminder to us all to do more, be more, understand more, and care more for our students." --Kim Bearden, co-founder and executive director, The Ron Clark Academy, author of Talk to Me "Teach Me, Teacher is one of the most courageous, heartbreaking, hopeful books I've ever read." --Regie Routman, author of Literacy Essentials "Jacob Chastain's raw honesty is something that we need more of in the education world." --Halee Sikorski, A Latte Learning "Teach Me, Teacher is both an uplifting memoir and a message to all of us in education of the power we have to build relationships and make a difference for all of our students." --Dr. Sue Szachowicz, senior fellow, Successful Practices Network "Jacob Chastain takes us on a transformational journey where past and present converge into possibility. His story of resilience and hope is a celebration of the impact each of us can have when professional purpose leads the way." --Dr. Mary Howard, author of Good to Great Teaching
