In 2001, the consequences of almost three decades of neoliberalismo made Argentina collapse. Out of the ashes of the ensuing social convulsion arose many different attempts by people to take the future into their own hands. Among them were the workers who started to put bankrupt, abandoned factories to work again in spite of the skepticism of politicians and part of society. Their successful stories surprised those who had expected them to fail and encouraged others to follow their example. In 2003, Esteban Magnani worked for Avi Lewis and Naomi Klein on a documentary on the phenomenon called The Take and wrote a book on recovered factories which is now being reprinted with an update for English speakers.

This book contends that beneath the frenzied activism of the sixties and the seeming quiescence of the seventies, a "silent revolution" has been occurring that is gradually but fundamentally changing political life throughout the Western world. Ronald Inglehart focuses on two aspects of this revolution: a shift from an overwhelming emphasis on material values and physical security toward greater concern with the quality of life; and an increase in the political skills of Western publics that enables them to play a greater role in making important political decisions. Originally published in 1977. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. One of the most powerful musical impacts in the history of the music business has taken place. A music show was created bringing people together while breaking through racial barriers, music prejudice, ethnic prejudice, and most of all, the generation gap. It all began when a local street kid from Fox Point, Providence, changed everything. Ray Arruda, known in the music business as Jr. Ray, came up with a MC/disc jockey show mixing all types of music and helped pioneer one of the most valuable concepts of all time, a now multibillion-dollar business-the MC disc jockey entertainment show is a show now being used all over the world. In a time when music was only heard over mainstream air waves, broadcast systems and in the club scene, the cultural phenomenon of the wedding disc jockey's emergence was ever necessary. People needed an outlet to hear their own personal form of music coupled with a place to let their hair down and drop their guards. A time categorized by the need for freedom, people were able to truly be free in a platform for true expression. Local entertainers said it wouldn't work; people wouldn't accept record playing in place of live entertainment. Jr. Ray proved them wrong. Read and learn some of the most valuable show stopping techniques and formulas he originated in the business. Read true accounts of how the MC/DJ became the people's number one choice over live bands. Read and learn the art form of entertaining, directing, emceeing, hosting and improvisation as well as the autobiographical history of the DJ who perfected the craft of disc jockeying and what gave him his finesse, remarkable reputation, stage presence and uncanny ability with people in the business.

A leading American anthropologist analyzes the many vitally important ways in which people "talk" to one another without the use of words. "The Silent Language shows how cultural factors influence the individual behind his back, without his knowledge." —Erich Fromm The pecking order in a chicken yard, the fierce competition in a school playground, every unwitting gesture and action—this is the vocabulary of the "silent language." According to Dr. Hall, the concepts of space and time are tools with which all human beings may transmit messages. Space, for example, is the outgrowth of an animal's instinctive defense of his lair and is reflected in human society by the office worker's jealous defense of his desk, or the guarded, walled patio of a Latin-American home. Similarly, the concept of time, varying from Western precision to Easter vagueness, is revealed by the businessman who pointedly keeps a client waiting, or the South Pacific islander who murders his neighbor for an injustice suffered twenty years ago.

There are steps of approach to the Silence. Stillness is one thing and the Silence is another. One may quiet himself physically and not be still, and he may be still without entering the Silence. When one becomes physically and mentally at rest, he is apt to become receptive to psychic influences; and when these are not desired it is advisable to protect oneself while mentally negative. One may affirm his Oneness with God, his being surrounded and protected by the divine Goodness, and may symbolize this by enveloping himself in thought with the white light of love or the mellowed tints of sunshine.

A guide for using body language to lead more effectively Aspiring and seasoned leaders have been trained to manage their leadership communication in many important ways. And yet, all their efforts to communicate effectively can be derailed by even the smallest nonverbal gestures such as the way they sit in a business meeting, or stand at the podium at a speaking engagement. In The Silent Language of Leaders, Goman explains that personal space, physical gestures, posture, facial expressions, and eye contact communicate louder than words and, thus, can be used strategically to help leaders manage, motivate, lead global teams, and communicate clearly in the digital age. Draws on compelling psychological and neuroscience research to show leaders how to adjust their body language for maximum effect. Stands out as the only book to address specifically how leaders can use body language to increase their effectiveness Goman, a respected management coach, is widely considered as the expert in body language issues in the workplace The Silent Language of Leaders will show readers how to take advantage of the most underused skills in the leadership toolkit—nonverbal skills—to improve their credibility and stay ahead of the curve.

Hollywood Lighting From The Silent Era To Film Noir written by Patrick Keating and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11-22 with Performing Arts categories.

Lighting performs essential functions in Hollywood films, enhancing the glamour, clarifying the action, and intensifying the mood. Examining every facet of this understated art form, from the glowing backlights of the silent period to the shaded alleys of film noir, Patrick Keating affirms the role of Hollywood lighting as a distinct, compositional force. Closely analyzing Girl Shy (1924), Anna Karenina (1935), Only Angels Have Wings (1939), and T-Men (1947), along with other brilliant classics, Keating describes the unique problems posed by these films and the innovative ways cinematographers handled the challenge. Once dismissed as crank-turning laborers, these early cinematographers became skillful professional artists by carefully balancing the competing demands of story, studio, and star. Enhanced by more than one hundred illustrations, this volume counters the notion that style took a backseat to storytelling in Hollywood film, proving that the lighting practices of the studio era were anything but neutral, uniform, and invisible. Cinematographers were masters of multifunctionality and negotiation, honing their craft to achieve not only realistic fantasy but also pictorial artistry.

**THE INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER** "An unforgettable—and Hollywood-bound—new thriller... A mix of Hitchcockian suspense, Agatha Christie plotting, and Greek tragedy." —Entertainment Weekly The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive. Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London. Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him....
