This book critically examines the attempts of the world's leading theologians over the past 100 years to deal conceptually with the resurrection of Christ. Finding such attempts ultimately unsatisfactory, Carnley articulates a logically coherent epistemology of faith in the resurrection that respects the authority of scriptural traditions as understood by contemporary New Testament scholars while preserving the transcendental dimensions of the resurrection as a divine mystery and the modern experience of the Easter Christ.

In the companion volume to this, The Resurrection in Retrospect, Peter Carnley focuses on the inadequacies for faith in Jesus Christ of an approach to his resurrection purely as an event of past historical time. The Reconstruction of Resurrection Belief articulates an alternative understanding of resurrection faith as essentially a response of trust based upon a knowledge by acquaintance with the living presence of Christ today. This book seeks to articulate an understanding of the nature of resurrection faith in the language of today, with as much logical coherence as possible, in the hope that it may have some traction in the increasingly secular world of contemporary scientific materialism. It faces the key challenge of seeking to explain how the claim that the animating Spirit of the Christian community that Saint Paul spoke of as "the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus" (Rom 8:2) may be justifiably identified in faith today as "the living presence of Jesus of Nazareth."

Personalism And The Politics Of Culture written by P. Grant and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-10-02 with Literary Criticism categories.
This book deals with interrelationships between literature and religion to examine the idea of the person in relation to the politics of culture. Throughout, Patrick Grant maintains that ideology separates value from fact, spirit from matter, and this separation depersonalises. In a series of chapters dealing with body, city, others, freedom, and transgression, and through a selection of texts from the New Testament to the Northern Irish poets, he shows how literature, spirituality, and postmodern culture might jointly liberate persons in a society committed to democratic process and socialist values.

Did Jesus Rise From The Dead written by Matthew Levering and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-07 with Religion categories.
The Resurrection of Jesus is at the very root of Christian faith; without belief in Jesus Christianity dies. In this thought-provoking work, Matthew Levering defends the credibility of the claim that Jesus rose from the dead. Drawing on the work of N. T. Wright, Levering shows that the historical evidence vindicates this assumption, and reveals that the Gospels were backed by eyewitnesses who were living and telling their stories even during the time of the writing of the Gospels. The author also emphasises the importance of evaluating the Old Testament to validate Jesus' Resurrection. By highlighting the desire—both in the ancient world and now—to make the Resurrection more comprehensible by spiritualizing it, Levering argues that the fact that the disciples themselves did not do this provides a further clue to reliability. Finally, the author addresses the question of why Jesus does not continue to show himself in his glorified flesh after his resurrection, which is often seen as a strong case for scepticism. However, he shows that Jesus' entire mission is predicated upon helping us to avoid cleaving to the present world over God. He is leading us to where he is—the kingdom of God, the beginning of the new creation at the Father's right hand. By developing these arguments for the historical reality of Jesus' Resurrection, this ground-breaking study expertly draws together historical and theological reasons for believing that Jesus' Resurrection happened.
