The power to raise the dead... will mean the end of all life. Jake Timber, agent of ARKANE — the secret organization charged with protecting the world from supernatural threat — is flying solo. His usual partner, Morgan Sierra, is on leave, still reeling from a recent brush with death. But evil takes no vacations, so when the corpse of a monk is discovered beneath a New Orleans cemetery — cruelly murdered, his body broken and his flesh carved with occult Voodoo markings — Jake knows it’s bad news. But even he’s not ready for the truth: someone is looking for the Hand of Ezekiel. Imbued with the power to raise the dead, the Hand was broken into five pieces, but now someone has found it... or something like it, because someone is killing people in New Orleans, then raising them from the dead as monsters. In over his head, Jake needs Morgan’s help if he hopes to beat back this evil. But even if she comes back to help, will it be enough? The Hand of Ezekiel is being assembled. The dead are rising from the grave. And the power to stop it all can only be found in the land of the dead... in the Valley of Dry Bones. New York Times and USA Today bestselling author J.F. Penn brings you the globe-trotting archaeological adventures of Indiana Jones, the power-hungry conspiracies of The Da Vinci Code, and the top agents of the world’s greatest supernatural agency. Dem Dry Bones written by Luke A. Powery and has been published by Fortress Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Religion categories.

In an age when the so-called prosperity gospel holds sway in many Christian communities or the good news of Christ is reduced to feel-good bromides, it would seem that death has little place in contemporary preaching. Embracing the vision of the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37 as a metaphor for preaching in the Spirit, acclaimed homiletician Luke Powery asserts that death is the context for all preaching. In fact, the Spirit leads preachers to the context of death each Sunday in order to proclaim a word of life that ultimately breathes hope into people's lives. Yet many preachers avoid death because they are at a loss of what to say about it and do not realize its vital connection to the substance of Christian hope. As a result the church is too often left with sermons that are fundamentally devoid of hope. Dem Dry Bones aims to remedy some of the theological and homiletical shortcomings in contemporary preaching by looking closely at the African American spirituals tradition, which Powery describes as "sung sermons" that embrace death. Thus, not only is death the context for preaching hope, but hope is generated by experiencing death through the Spirit who is the ultimate source of hope. Through this study, Powery demonstrates how to preach in the Spirit so that proclaiming death becomes an avenue toward hope. In short: no death, no hope.

"'The Valley of the Dry Bones: The Conditions That Face Black People in America, ' by Rudolphf R. Windsor, is a fascinating compilation of history, anthropology, sociology, and theology. In clear, limpid prose, Windsor tells the history of the black people, from biblical times until today. Drawing extensively upon the Bible and many works by eminent scholars in various disciplines, the author has created a work that is at once inspiring and intriguing. He seeks to prove that the black people, more properly called 'Black Israelites, ' are truly God's chosen people and, as such, should become more aware of their unique heritage. 'The Valley of the Dry Bones' represents a first step in this admirable endeavor. In the latter half of the book, Windsor moves from biblical times to present. Not only does he delineate the problems blacks face, but he also offers some solutions. Together with the lucid text are illustrations that are both timely and relevant. Windsor, in addition to knowing his history, has a wealth of common sense that he shares with his readers. No dusty volume of willingly forgotten data, 'The Valley of the Dry Bones' is a controversial and daring volume. That rare work of scholarship, a book that makes the lessons of history pertinent to the modern reader, 'The Valley of the Dry Bones' offers its readers a glimpse into a field of research that indeed merits a great deal of attention and careful thought."--Back cover
