Upside Down written by Robert L. Waring and has been published by Robert Waring this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Social Science categories.

In the early 1970''s, feminism promised to remake the world for women and create a new cultural landscape where women have equality with men. But forty years later, this attempted reboot has not occurred. Only a small minority of women have ever self-identified as feminists, and women overall are less happy today. In many ways progress is now stalled. Has feminism failed, or have we been thinking wrongly about gender issues all along? Both are true. Feminism sought too little systemic change and didn''t build a national consensus that it should succeed. While the book The End of Men helped encourage the false illusion that we''ve largely remedied gender inequality in America, in fact, we''ve barely begun. We need to rethink the effort, and on many levels start over. Upside Down draws on insights from biology, psychology, economics and political science. This book itself is paradoxical. It embraces the notion of gender differences, but does not imagine the world necessarily being better if women were in charge. Rather, Upside Down proposes a dozen public policy changes that could make the world a better place, with the side effect of aiding women''s advancement. The book delves into the difficult divide of partisan politics and explains how various public policies affect women, thus empowering individuals to effect change with their energies, their money and their votes. To set the stage for a new direction, the book relies on peer reviewed, scientific studies to describe eleven gender paradoxes - circumstances that based on feminism''s goals shouldn''t have happened, but did. Each of these paradoxes helps explain the causes of women''s continuing inequality in society, illuminates the harms, and suggests solutions. Did you know that as societies are becoming more egalitarian and behavior and opportunity are less constrained by gender, personality differences between men and women are becoming greater and increasing advantages men have in attaining power and wealth? This runs completely counter to the feminist view that such differences are purely cultural. It has huge implications for women''s competitiveness. Did you know that women in the U.S. are less happy today than they were forty years ago? And that by many measures, women''s progress in business and government - which should be steadily improving - has completely stalled in the 21st Century? Even more disturbing is research showing that in many workplace settings, women discriminate against women more than men do. Based on eleven years of meticulous research, Upside Down is filled with other surprising facts to support its conclusions. For example, did you know that mothers-to-be who skip breakfast are more likely to have daughters than those who don''t? Even more curious is the way this mechanism explains why women are less prone to violence than men. And on the topic of violence, many people are aware of the role played by testosterone, but did you know that a single dose often makes women more egocentric, less trusting and less collaborative? The book''s proposals would increase women''s access to opportunity, influence and power. For example, part time careers should be available to all, in every field - family responsibilities are too big a counterweight to a full time career for many. Changing hearts and minds about gender issues will require advertising and public relations campaigns. Adopting the policies of countries where women have greater influence could help women gain influence in government here. The book''s unique formula for gender quotas in state legislatures also could accelerate change. Upside Down charts a course for feminism to regain relevance and create real gender equality. This Deluxe Edition gives readers access to original research papers on a wide range of gender issues. The endnotes contain hundreds of web links to academic journal articles and newspaper stories.

Emerging Markets In An Upside Down World written by Jerome Booth and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-21 with Business & Economics categories.

The world is upside down. The emerging market countries are more important than many investors realise. They have been catching up with the West over the past few decades. Greater market freedom has spread since the end of the Cold War, and with it institutional changes which have further assisted emerging economies in becoming more productive, flexible, and resilient. The Western financial crisis from 2008 has quickened the pace of the relative rise of emerging markets - their relative economic power, and with it political power, but also their financial power as savers, investors and creditors. Emerging Markets in an Upside Down World - Challenging Perceptions in Asset Allocation and Investment argues that finance theory has misunderstood risk and that this has led to poor investment decisions; and that emerging markets constitute a good example of why traditional finance theory is faulty. The book accurately describes the complex and changing global environment currently facing the investor and asset allocator. It raises many questions often bypassed because of the use of simplifying assumptions and models. The narrative builds towards a checklist of issues and questions for the asset allocator and investor and then to a discussion of a variety of regulatory and policy issues. Aimed at institutional and retail investors as well as economics, finance, business and international relations students, Emerging Markets in an Upside Down World covers many complex ideas, but is written to be accessible to the non-expert.

“We the People” have had it pretty good since WWII. Our prosperity has resulted in our collective apathy toward the corrupt progression of what once were servants of the People into life-long “career politicians” in Washington, D.C. who have become our elite political ruling class. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Today in our United States we have an all-powerful central government enabled by a subservient media propelling our nation toward the living hell described in George Orwell’s 1984 where truth cannot be found—where freedom does not exist. Upside Down clearly defines the immediate action “We the People” can and must take to restore what used to be our government of, by, and for the people. If we choose to continue to sit on the sidelines and not get involved, we will transition from apathy to dependence and out of that dependence will come the bondage from which we rose 239 years ago.

Market Upside Down written by Vinh Q. Tran and has been published by FT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-01-25 with Business & Economics categories.

The U.S. economic crisis of 2008 isn't over! The next bubble, explosive government debt, is brewing. At the same time, the economy can't generate growth, the treasury is exhausted, the Fed's balance sheet is over-stressed, consumers remain deep in debt, and short-term interest rates are at near-zero. Intelligent investors can't just mourn the death of easy profits: they want and need new strategies for success through history's potentially worst equity market. In Market Upside Down, Dr. Vinh Q. Tran presents those strategies. Tran begins by explaining why the U.S. financial crisis will only get worse. He then provides professional and active investors a comprehensive framework for profiting in an upside down market that could last for decades. Drawing on his market expertise, as well as experience as money manager to institutional and wealthy investors, Tran shows how to build wealth and generate return in times of crisis with a focus on what will matter most in the coming years: liquidity and risk management. Tran helps investors explore global investments and opportunities that won't depend on the troubled U.S. economy or a reinvigorated market soaring, and shows how to profit from the coming age of scarcity. Along the way, he demonstrates how to use fixed income, hedge funds, and non-traditional investments, with minimal equity risks to create a portfolio that is positioned to provide liquidity, profits and importantly to weather future crises.
