Een hartverwarmende roman die doet denken aan Mark Haddons Het wonderlijke voorval van de hond in de nacht, en een hoofdpersoon die net zo innemend en naïef is als Forrest Gump alleen gaat het hier om een meisje. Als Audrey hoort dat haar vader in een coma is geraakt na een botsing met een kerstboom en nu thuis, in Canada, in een ziekenhuis ligt, overwint ze haar vliegangst om naar hem toe te kunnen. Maar eerst geeft ze haar schildpad Winnifred af bij haar vrienden, die helaas geen kampioen schildpadverzorgers blijken te zijn. Als Audrey in het vliegtuig een air marshal ontwapent en zich in het toilet opsluit, komt de lezer er al snel achter dat er iets bijzonders aan de hand is met Audrey. Audreys missie om uit te zoeken wie haar vader nu werkelijk was, en om Winnifred terug te vinden blijkt een gedenkwaardig avontuur te zijn. Jessica Grant is een Canadese schrijfster. Ze heeft voor haar korte verhalen onder andere de Western Magazine Award for Fiction en de Journey Prize gewonnen.
