Das Besondere: jeder Nutzer kann aktiv die Inhalte im Internet beeinflussen und so z.B. die Meinung des Publikums als Autor prägen, Videosequenzen einstellen und Produkte kommentieren und bewerten. Diese, auch als User Generated Content bezeichnete Macht des Verbrauchers zwingt Unternehmen nicht nur, über Risiken und deren Prävention nachzudenken, sondern auch auszuloten, inwieweit eine Nutzbarmachung des Web-2.0-Potentials im Bereich des Marketings möglich ist. Mittlerweile lassen sich auch in Deutschland Unternehmen unterschiedlichster Branchen finden, die die Instrumente des Web 2.0 im Marketing einsetzen. Dennoch haben sich viele Unternehmen noch nicht oder nur unzureichend mit den Herausforderungen im Marketing vertraut gemacht. So kann der bisherige Einsatz bei Versicherern nur als sehr zurückhaltend bezeichnet werden und auch der Assekuranz Marketing Circle (AMC) kritisierte die Branche Anfang des Jahres 2007 im Hinblick auf den fehlenden Einsatz von Web-2.0-Werkzeugen. Zielsetzung dieser Arbeit soll es sein zu untersuchen, was unter Web 2.0 aus Sicht des Marketings aktuell verstanden und wie es in der Markenkommunikation von Unternehmen bereits eingesetzt wird, um mit diesen Ergebnissen aus Theorie und Praxis dazu beizutragen, Handlungsempfehlungen für Versicherer aufzuzeigen. Damit unterstützt diese Arbeit vor allem Unternehmen der Old Economy, speziell Versicherungen, darin, einen umfassenden Überblick über marketingrelevante Werkzeuge hinter dem Schlagwort Web 2.0 zu gewinnen und ihre Einsatzmöglichkeiten besser einschätzen zu können.
