In this book, I point out that Adam and Eve were free to eat from any tree of the Garden of Eden, including the forbidden tree. Freedom isn't really freedom if there aren't options, choices. Every human being born into this world since "the Fall" of the human race in Genesis 3 has been born in the likeness of our fallen most ancient ancestors. We are born sinners without a choice to not be sinners-regardless of how our inborn sinful nature has manifested in our lives. Once we are born again children of God, having accepted the Atoning Sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross, making us Righteous before God, we now have a new nature, new options, new freedom. The born again believer is more free than Adam and Eve had begun. God through Christ has set us free from sin, not free to sin. And yet... even after we have come to Salvation there seems to be more options to sin and ways to fall short of the Glory of God than Adam and Eve could have dreamed. In Any Tree of the Garden I discuss what the Bible means by our "flesh," "soul," and "spirit." I discuss our responsibilities as children of God still living in a fallen world, contending with the fallen nature within our flesh. I discuss why sin matters, and why it does not. I break down temptation and other ways the enemy harasses us-even spending a little time discussing the enemy himself, who is NOT the threat to you he wants you to believe him to be. I will draw your focus from the defeated pathetic desperate enemy to your identity in Christ, because of Christ, and to much of what is True and what is available to you as a result.Sin and even satan himself are no match for the child of God armed with the knowledge of who you are in Christ! No matter what your struggles have been, you can and will master your freedom to sin!

Sin And Grace In Christian Counseling written by Mark R. McMinn and has been published by InterVarsity Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-02-28 with Religion categories.

Sin. Grace. Christian Counseling. How do these fit together? In Christian theology sin and grace are intrinsically interconnected. Teacher and counselor Mark McMinn believes that Christian counseling, then, must also take account of both human sin and God's grace. For both sin and grace are distorted whenever one is emphasized without the other. McMinn, noting his own tendencies and the temptation to stereotype different Christian approaches to counseling along this theological divide, aims to help all those preparing for or currently serving in the helping professions. Expounding the proper relationship of sin and grace, McMinn shows how the full truth of the Christian gospel works itself out in the functional, structural and relational domains of an integrative model of psychotherapy. Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS) Books explore how Christianity relates to mental health and behavioral sciences including psychology, counseling, social work, and marriage and family therapy in order to equip Christian clinicians to support the well-being of their clients.

Beyond Racial Gridlock written by George Yancey and has been published by InterVarsity Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-08-20 with Religion categories.

Christians have struggled with racial issues for centuries, and often inadvertently contribute to the problem. Many proposed solutions have been helpful, but these only take us so far. Adding to this complex situation is the reality that Christians of different races see the issues differently. Sociologist George Yancey surveys a range of approaches to racial healing that Christians have used and offers a new model for moving forward. The first part of the book analyzes four secular models regarding race used by Christians (colorblindness, Anglo-conformity, multiculturalism and white responsibility) and shows how each has its own advantages and limitations. Part two offers a new "mutual responsibility" model, which acknowledges that both majority and minority cultures have their own challenges, tendencies, and sins to repent of, and that people of different races approach racial reconciliation and justice in differing but complementary ways. Yancey's vision offers hope that people of all races can walk together on a shared path--not as adversaries, but as partners.

Has the World Confused Evil with Righteousness? When sin is disguised as virtue, the path to cultivating righteousness becomes impossible. Such is the challenge Christians face in the modern age. Not long ago, most people would agree that the seven deadly sins are in fact deadly. But ask them today, and you’ll hear a different answer. Today, “anger” is often considered an admirable emotion, “lust” the only expression of love, and “greed” the unassailable right to “get what’s yours.” The world can rebrand sin all it wants and declare the death of truth, but it has no power against the truth of the Scripture. What God calls sin is sin—no matter what the world says. And sin always has the same destination—death and destruction. Dangerous Virtues examines how to recognize these seven deadly sins as they are subtly disguised in today’s culture. Dr. John Koessler provides a theology of sin and why the Christian must develop a prayerful heart and discerning eye to identify where sin exists in a world where good is called evil and evil called good.

The Sin We Treat As A Virtue written by B. Ward Powers and has been published by Trafford Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-17 with Religion categories.

This book is for all those of us who love the Lord Jesus: because this whole topic is an issue that deeply concerns every one of us, and it really matters. Is there indeed a sin we treat as a virtue? Could this possibly be true of us, of me? Yes, there is a sin we are treating as a virtue. This sin is greed—sheer plain greed. Coveting. The comfortable, respectable, sin. But the extremely dangerous and damaging sin. It is condemned by the Tenth Commandment. It is the sin Christ spoke against more often and more vehemently than any other— he warned against it in the strongest possible terms: “Beware! Take care! Watch out!” It chokes the Word of God in your life, he said. It hinders a person entering the Kingdom of God and deprives them of eternal life. That is how serious it is. Paul said that greed is a form of idolatry and can destroy a person. He found this sin sneaky, tricky, and insidious. The risk to us from this sin is all the worse because it is so often not recognized as sin. It is so all-pervasive that we do not actually see its deceitful danger. But statistics show it is insidiously at work in the church, seriously affecting its work and witness in the world. It is a trap and a snare that can so easily catch us quite unawares. Breaking free of it is in fact one of the most difficult issues we face in our Christian lives. Can anything be done about this? Yes! It is crucial that we become aware of what the Bible says about it, and then think through how to live our lives in accordance with biblical teaching. This book will point to all the relevant Scriptures. Can you afford not to heed what they say? They just might save you from spiritual disaster. Don’t treat this lightly. Jesus didn’t. Paul didn’t.

Coming from atheism to Jesus caused such a profound change in me it is often difficult to express. The desires of my heart were not the same. I wanted to live differently. I wanted to live for Jesus and the gospel message. At the same time, I began to notice that a vast number of my fellow believers lived the way I used to live when I was an atheist. I also knew that needed to change. We have been incorrectly taught that we will always sin because of our sin nature, and we cannot help it. The Bible tells a different story. We have all we need to live holy lives, and we are commanded to be holy. When we sin, we add suffering to Jesus on the cross. We strike hammer blows against Jesus Christ on the cross. We can live holy. Let’s live holy and do not strike hammer blows on Jesus Christ on the cross.

Sin written by Gary A. Anderson and has been published by Yale University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-09-29 with Religion categories.

What is sin? Is it simply wrongdoing? Why do its effects linger over time? In this sensitive, imaginative, and original work, Gary Anderson shows how changing conceptions of sin and forgiveness lay at the very heart of the biblical tradition. Spanning nearly two thousand years, the book brilliantly demonstrates how sin, once conceived of as a physical burden, becomes, over time, eclipsed by economic metaphors. Transformed from a weight that an individual carried, sin becomes a debt that must be repaid in order to be redeemed in God's eyes. Anderson shows how this ancient Jewish revolution in thought shaped the way the Christian church understood the death and resurrection of Jesus and eventually led to the development of various penitential disciplines, deeds of charity, and even papal indulgences. In so doing it reveals how these changing notions of sin provided a spur for the Protestant Reformation. Broad in scope while still exceptionally attentive to detail, this ambitious and profound book unveils one of the most seismic shifts that occurred in religious belief and practice, deepening our understanding of one of the most fundamental aspects of human experience.

Love Kindness written by Barry H. Corey and has been published by NavPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-05 with Religion categories.

Kindness is not what we have been taught it is. It isn’t a soft virtue, expressed only by sweet grandmothers or nice Boy Scouts. Kindness is neither timid nor frail. Instead, it is brave and daring, willing to be vulnerable with those with whom we disagree. It is the revolutionary way that Jesus himself called us to live. The way of selfless risks. The way of staggering hope. The way of authenticity. Dr. Barry Corey, president of Biola University, believes we tend to devalue the importance of kindness, opting instead for caustic expressions of certainty that push people away. We forget that the essence of what God requires of us is to “love kindness.” In this book, filled with stories from his travels around the globe, Barry shows us the forgotten way of kindness. It is a life that calls us to put ourselves at risk. A life that calls us to hope. A life of a firm center and soft edges. It is the life Christ invites us to follow, no matter what the cost. This new paperback edition has an added chapter and a foreword from Steven Curtis Chapman.
