Ook stromingen met een filosofische achtergrond komen uitgebreid aan bod, zoals anarchisme, liberalisme en marxisme. In deze herziene editie zijn ook nieuwe wijsgerige termen opgenomen, die voortkomen uit recente filosofische ontwikkelingen op sociaal- economisch, politiek, technisch-technologisch, moreel-ethisch en natuurfilosofisch gebied. Een prominente plaats werd voorbehouden voor de discipline ‘genderstudies’, die de voorbije twintig jaar een belangrijke ontwikkeling heeft doorgemaakt. Daarnaast mag in een hedendaags woordenboek filosofie de niet-westerse filosofie in al haar vormen, niet ontbreken. Heeft de geschiedenis van de wijsbegeerte aangetoond dat het onhoudbaar is om in de 21e eeuw nog in God te geloven? Dat is de vraag waarin dit overzicht van de westerse wijsbegeerte uitmondt. Enerzijds laat dit boek zich lezen als een helder en toegankelijk geschreven introductie in de geschiedenis van de westerse wijsbegeerte. Anderzijds richt het zich speciaal op theologen en andere belangstellenden in het grensgebied van wijsbegeerte en theologie, aangezien telkens speciale aandacht geschonken wordt aan de verhouding tussen filosofie en christelijk geloof. Na een beknopte terreinverkenning in het veld van de wijsbegeerte, brengt de auteur in een achttal chronologisch opgezette hoofdstukken de hoofdstromingen en kernfiguren uit de geschiedenis van de wijsbegeerte in kaart. Speciale aandacht geeft hij daarbij aan hun verhouding tot de christelijke geloofstraditie. Ten slotte trekt hij de draden samen in een systematisch hoofdstuk, waarin een kritische bespreking geboden wordt van de zogeheten 'onhoudbaarheidsthese'. Volgens deze vaak nogal klakkeloos herhaalde stelling zou de geschiedenis van de wijsbegeerte de onhoudbaarheid van het klassiek-christelijke geloof in God hebben aangetoond. Dr. G. van den Brink doceerde voorheen filosofie aan de theologische opleidingen te Groningen, Utrecht en Ede. Momenteel is hij docent dogmatiek aan de theologische faculteit van de Universiteit Leiden.

Design impacts every part of our lives. The design of products and services influences the way we go about our daily activities and it is hard to imagine any activity in our daily lives that is not dependent on design in some capacity. Clothing, mobile phones, computers, cars, tools and kitchenware all enable and hold in place everyday practices. Despite design’s omnipresence, the understanding of how design may facilitate desirable behaviours is still fragmented, with limited frameworks and examples of how design can effect change in professional and public contexts. This text presents an overview of current approaches dedicated to understanding how design may be used intentionally to make changes to improve a range of problematic social and environmental issues. It offers a cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral overview of different academic theories adopted and applied to design for behaviour change.
