The general subject of this series of messages is “The Kernel of the Bible.” These messages present the kernel—the central part, the intrinsic significance, and the core—of the Bible. The kernel of the Bible is God’s eternal economy with Christ and the church as its contents. The central subject of the Bible is the economy of God, and the entire Bible is concerned with the economy of God. This divine economy is the governing and controlling vision in the Bible. Christ is the element, sphere, means, goal, and aim of God’s eternal economy; He is everything in God’s economy. Hence, to focus on God’s economy is to focus on the all-inclusive Christ, because in God’s economy Christ is everything. His economy is initiated and developed in the sphere of faith (1 Tim. 1:4); hence, everything begins with believing. To exercise our faith is to stop our work and to trust in the Lord. God’s economy in faith issues in the church as the mystery of godliness—the corporate manifestation of God in the flesh (3:15-16).
