Summary : This book offers a complete, practical guide to doing an intensive longitudinal study with individuals, dyads, or groups. It provides the tools for studying social, psychological, and physiological processes in everyday contexts, using methods such as diary and experience sampling. A range of engaging, worked-through research examples with datasets are featured. Coverage includes how to: select the best intensive longitudinal design for a particular research question, apply multilevel models to within-subject designs, model within-subject change processes for continuous and categorical outcomes, assess the reliability of within-subject changes, assure sufficient statistical power, and more. Several end-of-chapter write-ups illustrate effective ways to present study findings for publication. Datasets and output in SPSS, SAS, Mplus, HLM, MLwiN, and R for the examples are available on the companion website (www.intensivelongitudinal.com).

Summary : As obvious as it may sound, the essence of human experience — our thoughts, emotions, behaviours and social interactions — plays out in the course of everyday life. Experience Sampling Methodology (ESM) is the gold standard for studying people’s experiences in their everyday environments. In this third edition of The Open Handbook, experts from the Center for Research on Experience Sampling and Ambulatory Methods Leuven (REAL) provide up-to-date, empirically based advice for designing, conducting and analysing ESM studies. This comprehensive guide walks readers through every step of ESM research: from formulating research questions and optimally designing ESM studies and questionnaires, to addressing ethical considerations and practical issues such as power calculations, software choices and briefing/debriefing procedures. It also covers preprocessing and analysing intensive longitudinal data and explores future applications of ESM. Each chapter of this third edition has been updated with the latest methodological developments and insights, and a new chapter on dyadic ESM research has been added. Ideal for both novice and expert researchers, this handbook is an invaluable resource for anyone embarking on ESM research.

Summary : This book explores a wide range of methodological approaches to examining various forms of workplace physical environments. It focuses on pressing questions regarding the relationship between the spatial component of the workplace, including its progressive hybridisation with other physical and virtual places, and its users, be they public organisations, private companies, or start-up businesses and solopreneurs. International contributors address a range of methods that are applicable both in research and practice to confront the most cutting-edge workplace-related issues. The assumption is that work has been changing, thanks to the virtualisation of many activities, and that homeworking and hybrid working modes are expected to increase significantly after Covid-19. Thus, spaces hosting work need to adapt accordingly. Researchers and practitioners have been struggling to determine how much space will be needed by companies, what kind of space will better host different work activities, which workers are more suited for working from home, and which instead are more productive if they have an office-based working arrangement. The necessary evolution of the office should follow evidence-based decisions on the abovementioned matters, which are only possible through rigorous investigations. This volume aims to support these investigations, which call for inventive applications of qualitative and quantitative methodologies. By doing so the book will encourage solid practices and thorough research agendas in workplace design, management, and use. Contributions come from different disciplines, including facilities management, real estate management, psychology, design, architecture, sociology, and organisation studies. Chapters highlight the importance of appropriate methodologies, borrowed from different fields, in addressing contemporary questions and developments in workplaces. By analysing the challenges and opportunities for conducting rigorous research in different workplace settings, this book will be critical reading for both academics and students, as well as for decision-makers and professionals who deal with workplace design and management. Summary : Mental and behavioral health disorders, including addiction, greatly contribute to premature morbidity and mortality rates in the US. The years 2015-2017 marked the first year-on-year decline in lifespan since the early 20th century, driven by excessive alcohol use, suicide, and a significant increase in fatal overdoses since 1999. The systems and services for addressing addiction and mental health conditions are fragmented, difficult to access, and insufficiently understood. However, these disorders are preventable, easily screened, impacted by social determinants, amenable to treatment, and influenced by various systems, services, and policies. Contrary to popular belief, a recent nationally representative study revealed that the majority of individuals with substance use disorder have a high likelihood of recovering successfully. Nevertheless, there is still much to learn in terms of support services, their operation, network structures, payment methods, measurement criteria, workforce preparation, and more. This Research Topic aims to delve into the expanding field of recovery science, exploring the various aspects and strategies for successful recovery from addiction and mental health disorders. Topics to be explored include, but are not limited to: • The impact of social factors such as socioeconomic status, access to healthcare – particularly in rural areas, and community support on recovery outcomes. • Innovative treatment approaches such as cutting-edge therapies, interventions, and technologies that are revolutionizing the field of recovery science. • The importance of individualized treatment plans tailored to each person's unique needs, preferences, and circumstances. • The integration of physical, emotional, and psychological well-being in recovery journeys, including the benefits of complementary therapies. • The significance of ongoing support systems, recovery communities, and aftercare programs in sustaining long-term recovery and preventing relapse. • Alternative evidence-based approaches to recovery, such as the use of ketogenic diets, physical exercise, and policies that increase access to recovery support services, minimize harm, incarceration, and other negative social and health impacts of addiction. • The role of advocacy movements, policy changes, and public perception in shifting the narrative around addiction and mental health, facilitating greater support for recovery. The collection is open to the following article types: Brief Research Report, Classification, Clinical Trial, Community Case Study, Data Report, Hypothesis & Theory, Methods, Original Research, Policy Brief, Policy and Practice Reviews, Review, and Systematic Review. We seek to highlight the latest research, evidence-based practices, and innovative approaches that contribute to long-term recovery outcomes and inform future treatments and interventions. Ongoing research in this field promises exciting developments and a brighter future for addiction and mental health disorder recovery. Ashli J.
