The City is teaming with activity as usual and it’s a warm day. This correlates closely with the average weather conditions for the season. We are proud, quite rightly, of our standing in the LOCE League (Law and Order, Comfort and Efficiency). We are usually in the Top 10 and that is quite an achievement. But nothing is perfect. Indeed, that very statement is one of the City’s slogans to keep us on our toes! We are also proud that our City is run on democratic principles (when possible), managed by our fine team of DM5’s (when necessary, but usually our parliamentarians are perfectly capable), and backed by what is colloquially known as Central Computer. But what was discovered by DCI Cody was shocking! I was instructed to write an account in this old language, an official language of the Archive Mountain. If you are reading this, you must be a real scholar! See if you can figure out what’s going on, but don’t skip to the end and then claim you’re clever! If you cheat, we’ll know. “The writing style is quite hypnotic… it makes the reader with the characters grope towards meaning… the writing is intriguing and gives the City a terrible reality.” Alan Samson (publisher, Weidenfeld & Nicholson).

Shortlisted for the Sports Entertainment Book of the Year at the British Sports Book Awards The funniest man in British sport - Metro Peter Crouch is a comedy genius - Daily Mail Often recruited before they've worn long trousers, today's footballers become superstars who earn huge amounts without ever learning much about the world beyond the training ground. Coddled by their support teams, everything is done for them. They live their lives in the glaring media spotlight, yet only really develop one life skill - how to kick a ball better. Then inevitably, when age catches up with them or injury strikes, these man-children are thrown out into the real world, utterly defenceless apart from their multi-million-pound bank accounts. So what do these Peter Pans, whose careers end just as most people's are getting going, do with the rest of their lives? Crouch speaks from his own experience and discusses with fellow former professionals too - just how do you safely release a near seven-foot striker back into the wild? Peter goes in search of the answer to what his second career might be and encounters stories far more bizarre than anything you'll find on the pitch. From the pleasure and pain of management to the lessons we can learn from Jamie Carragher and Joe Cole on not going to seed. From those staying in the sport - the diehard veterans, coaches, managers, owners and of course the legion of pundits, to those moving on to pastures new. Peter talks to entrepreneurs, men of the cloth, eco warriors, artists, private detectives and budding actors, as well as those who've lost their way in addiction, crime and NFTs. When the final whistle blows, it's still all to play for.

Heads Up written by Alan Smith and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-23 with Sports & Recreation categories.

'Alan's book is like his game: incisive, thoughtful, intelligent and consistently hits the target' Gary Lineker 'A brilliant, articulate, thoughtful man with a wonderful sense of humour: Smudge encapsulates all he is and knows in this fantastic book that will capture the hearts of every football fan' Tony Adams 'It was different back then, at least through Arsenal eyes. This was a young, exciting team full of hope and desire, led by a manager bristling with ambition . . .' Anfield '89. Copenhagen '94. Two of Arsenal's greatest triumphs in the modern era. Both matches defined by the goal-scoring prowess of one man - Alan 'Smudger' Smith. Smith's rise in football was vertiginous: playing for Alvechurch in the Southern League one year, competing in the top flight twelve months later. His first three years at Leicester were characterized by a successful partnership with Gary Lineker. When Lineker left for Everton, Smith stepped forward as the main goal-getter. It was Smith's move to Highbury, however, that enabled him to become the winner of two Golden Boots and one of the most highly-rated strikers in the game. Honest, insightful and authoritative, Heads Up reveals what it was like forging a career in the tough First Division of old before the glitz of the Premier League took hold; the ins and outs of playing for George Graham and rooming with Gazza; the truth behind Anfield '89; which team could easily have gone on to become the first 'Invincibles' had Chelsea not spoiled it one February afternoon; how the highs of the game can quickly be converted into morale-sapping lows; and how injury really does affect a career. After twenty years of writing for the Daily Telegraph, covering four World Cups, four European Championships and countless club games, Alan Smith has done what few ex-professionals are able to do - describe in his own words what it's really like to play the game . . . 'Very enjoyable and typically honest account by my old mate on a fine career' Lee Dixon

This lively and practical introduction to the mathematics of money invites us to take a fresh look at the numbers that underpin our financial decisions. Morton D. Davis talks about strategies to use when we are required to bet against the odds (purchasing auto insurance) or choose to bet against the odds (wagering in a casino or at the track). He considers the ways in which we can streamline and simplify the choices available to us in mortgages and other loans. And he helps us understand the real probabilities when we accept a tip on that "one in a thousand" stock, even when the tip comes from a successful day trader. With a wealth of entertaining and counterintuitive examples, The Math of Money delights as well as informs, and will help readers treat their financial resources more rationally.

None of Your Business! is a novel about the richest business leader in the world, John Mako, spanning one year of absurdist changes to our society with the goal of being both entertainingly thoughtful and outside the box. Nowadays as businesses and global corporations have more and more power, it allows them unprecedented influence and control in society. What if the leaders of one of those companies - or specifically, the richest and most powerful business leader in the world, had a sudden epiphany and dedicated himself wholly to making the world a better place? What if the world’s premiere business leader spent all of their resources on transforming society? This novel looks at this concept through an absurdist, whimsical lens. For example, taking the concept of Work/live situations like real factories abroad but satirizing the concept. Or actual stores of ‘Free Stuff’ to parody the concept of liberal takers. This is all wrapped around John Mako’s crisis of conscience. None of Your Business! - can be categorized as satirical fiction, with the elements of a self-help-book. A blend of Kurt Vonnegut, Philip K. Dick, and Robert Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land, it’s a book meant to be absurdist, thought-provoking, and provocative. Is this really the future of business, or whose business? Or maybe that’s None of Your Business!
