O processo de globalização da cultura do mundo moderno, em que se postula a formação do ser "cidadão cósmico", faz suscitar a clássica discussão das categorias: passado versus presente, parte versus todo, singular versus plural e particular versus universal. Neste livro a comunidade Kalunga é alvo de estudo ao considerá-la de cultura específica, pois é formada por negros remanescentes de quilombo, constituindo assim, minoria étnica no contexto social. Contudo, não se trata de aprofundar-se exaustivamente no conhecimento de sua cultura, mas buscar, a partir da escola ali existente, indagar como a educação escolar os prepara para atender aos modos de produção emergentes da "sociedade global" e ao mesmo tempo não deixar evaporar a identidade da comunidade. Daí três dimensões de imediato se impõem: a cultura, o currículo e o cotidiano. Para tanto, vale-se da abordagem etnográfica, o que oportuniza descrever e registrar a situação social, detectada em seus quatro elementos primários, ou seja: atividade (ação), lugar (espaço físico), ator (indivíduo envolvido) e tempo (duração da ação). O suposto é que a educação escolar, via currículo, possa equilibrar e articular o diálogo horizontal entre cultura particular e cultura universal. O currículo "ativo" da escola, em sua concretude, revela a desvinculação dessa relação. Por outro lado, as manifestações culturais da comunidade fazem transparecer uma relação dialética: de preservação da cultura local e de ascensão aos bens culturais da sociedade circundante. Diante dessa constatação, se faz necessário optar por um currículo escolar "compreensivo" proposto por Magendzo, em que essa relação se faz presente. Nesse modelo de currículo, há possibilidade do resgate da cidadania Kalunga, a qual se diferencia da cidadania constituída por códigos, ou seja, ela é a própria identidade, como também mantém o diálogo com a cultura universal. Um mergulho cuidadoso e reflexivo nos labirintos que compõem os caminhos definidos deste livro faz com que o leitor evidencie a sua própria análise de como o currículo da escola deve ser permeado de traços e ações culturais do contexto em que ele é inserido e produzido.

É com imensa alegria que compartilhamos com vocês leitores o livro O Ensino do Teatro nos Quilombos: Memórias e identidades Kalunga em cena. Apresentamos nele algumas diretrizes de pesquisa que teve como objetivo sistematizar uma metodologia de ensino do teatro, visando à apreensão corpórea, à (re)significação de conceitos, ao fortalecimento e à (re)apropriação da cultura local pelos jovens quilombolas da comunidade Kalunga, do município de Cavalcante (GO). Além da pedagogia do teatro, o escopo teórico-metodológico desta pesquisa baseou-se em estudos da História Oral e da Antropologia Visual para o levantamento e a análise de materiais pela e na própria comunidade, como: danças, cantigas e relatos de cultura local. Tentamos propiciar, por meio das técnicas teatrais, o estabelecimento de relações de aproximação e de distanciamento entre os sujeitos envolvidos e suas performances culturais. Tais ações possibilitaram o contato dos jovens com uma nova linguagem, aproximando-os dos costumes e das tradições de sua comunidade e possibilitando, assim, a valorização do conhecimento legado pelos mais velhos aos mais novos. Dessa forma, um dos aspectos marcantes nesse processo de ensino e aprendizagem é o modo pelo qual a memória desses jovens foi acionada e (res)significada por eles.
