While some see Podemos as the saviour of Spanish democracy, others have accused it of corrosive populism. "Framed in debates about the crisis of democracy, the book analyses one of the most influential social movements of recent times: Spain's "Indignados" or "15-M" movement. In the wake of the global financial crisis and harsh austerity policies, 15-M movement activists occupied public squares across the country, mobilized millions of Spanish citizens, gave rise to new hybrid parties such as Podemos, and inspired pro-democracy movements around the world. Based on access to key participants in the 15-M movement and Podemos and extensive participant observation, the book tells the story of this remarkable movement, its emergence, evolution, and impact. In so doing, it challenges some of the core arguments in social movement scholarship about the factors likely to lead to movement success. Instead the book argues that movements organized around autonomous network logics can build and sustain strong movements in the absence of formal organizations, strong professionalized leadership, and the ability to attract external resources. The key to understanding its power lies in the shared political culture and collective identity that emerged following the occupation of Spain's central squares. These protest camps sustained the movement by forging reciprocal ties of solidarity between diverse actors, and generating a shared set of critical master frames across a diverse set of actors and issues (e.g. housing, education, pensions, privatization of public services, corruption) that enabled the movement to effectively contest hegemonic narratives about the crisis, austerity and democracy, influencing public debate and the political agenda"--

Whether or not it constituted a complete break from the past, the 15-M movement’s most important legacy was a more expansive notion of the popular political, one that recognized cultural representation as a mode of political articulation and as part of a political culture. In an effort to understand the populist cycle inaugurated by 15-M, and to do so beyond a series of narrated events, Performing Populism sets out to explain Spanish populism in relation to the performances of its visual politics. The book's first part examines how the 15-M movement created a new way of seeing that in turn led to a new way of doing politics in Spain. Part Two focuses on the multiple ramifications of that new vision once the people stopped marching and the movement became less visible. From electoral posters to fiction films, documentaries, and internet memes, Performing Populism traces the ways that collective Spanish identities evolved from a period when "the people" seemed to have been willingly subsumed under the apathetic ideation of the middle-class consumer to the moment in 2011 when a crisis of representation forced many into political consciousness. This rude awakening kickstarted the reconstruction of a Spanish "us" that staged exhibitions of popular will on par with and parallel to the Arab Spring, but in a European register that embraced the countercultural through art that disremembered its political past but could not escape the ghostly shadow of its history.

While the right is harnessing populist rhetoric to great effect, the left's attempts have been much less successful. The Syriza government in Greece and Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party in Britain have both failed to change the neoliberal status quo and introduce democratic socialism in their countries. Other movements however, like the Spanish party Podemos, have seen greater gains and are now in government in Spain. In this book, Marina Prentoulis evaluates the transformational process of left populism across grassroots, national and European levels and asks what we can do to better harness the power of broad-based, popular left politics. Bringing a wealth of experience in political organizing, she argues that left populism is a political logic that brings together isolated demands against a common enemy with an egalitarian pluralism that could transform economic and political institutions in a radical democratic direction. But each party does this differently, and the key to understanding where to go from here lies in a serious analysis of the roots of each movement's base, the forms of party organization, and the particular national contexts. Avoiding reductive terms like 'pasokification', this is a clear and holistic approach to left populism that will inform anyone wanting to understand and move forward positively in a bleak time for the Left in Europe.

El año 1955, nos conocimos en los pasillos del Instituto Bíblico Magdiel, el Dr. Pablo Sánchez y un servidor. En ese tiempo, cuando ingresé al Magdiel yo venía de Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, él venía de Cd. Mante. Me informó que nació en el Municipio del Mante, el 7 de Junio de 1935. Fuimos compañeros de cuarto allí en el Instituto, y desde entonces somos buenos amigos y compañeros en estas lides. Se graduó el 1956, se casó con Elizabeth Posada. El supo ganar los espacios en el tiempo. Es educador, por lo que se propuso cursar los niveles educativos que exige su profesión; desde terminar la Primaria, la Secundaria, la Preparatoria, se recibió de Licenciado en Pedagogía y de Sociología y con la Especialidad en Ciencias Sociales, en la Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas, también se graduó como profesor de Educación Media y con la Especialidad en Orientación Vocacional, en la Normal Superior de Tamaulipas. Incursionó en el Sistema Educativo Mexicano, la Secretaría de Educación Pública lo distinguió enviándolo a un curso de excelencia, y participó en comisiones con distintos fines a nivel nacional. Más tarde, sacó su Maestría en Divinidades de la Universidad de Hawaii en el Campus de Oklahoma City, y fue Doctorado en Teología por La Escuela de Biblia, Teología, Seminario y Universidad, de Riverside, California Estados Unidos, Se le considera cofundador de la obra de Las Asambleas de Dios en el Estado de Tabasco, fundó la Iglesia en Teapa, Tabasco, pastoreó en Linares, Nuevo León, en Piedras Negras, Coahuila. En Acapulco, Guerrero, en Reynosa Tamaulipas, ocho años fue director de un Instituto Bíblico en Reynosa, fundó el Instituto Bíblico Emaús y por 26 años fue su director. Es Presidente de "EAGLES INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY". Sus hijos son: Josué, Benjamín, Roberto y Lily, todos con diferentes grados educativos y diferentes posiciones en calidad de siervos del Señor, dedicados al ministerio.
