The Exodus theme is one of the most basic in Biblical tradition and it is to be expected that it should appear again and again as the Lord's plan of salvation unfolded. It is possible to trace out this theme as it is reflected in the various writings of Scripture and such an exercise should add greatly to our understanding of the Lord's saving purpose. With the Exodus theology as a background, we may profitably consider two closely related themes. After the Exodus from Egypt there followed the wilderness period, the march through the desert, which also left a deep imprint on Biblical tradition. So after the Exodus there follows a consideration of the wilderness theme. God's chosen agent throughout this period was Moses, who consequently came to occupy a unique place in Biblical tradition. The Moses theme therefore constitutes the third area of study covered in this volume.

Milton Hershey is well known for his chocolate. You can find Hershey's chocolate throughout America and many other countries. Moreover, many have written about him likening M.S. Hershey to royalty, such as an Emperor or King of chocolate. However, this is not the Hersheys' greatest achievement. The far more unique, extraordinary and unparalleled achievement of Milton and Catherine Hershey is The Hershey Industrial School. As part of The Hershey Industrial School, the Hersheys created the community, businesses and education system of Hershey, PA. HIS was established in perpetuity for the benefit of American orphans. Hershey Ideal Community for Orphans is about the Hersheys' intelligent philanthropy. A philanthropy that not only benefited all who were a part of it, its beneficiaries are American children who are orphans, and therefore, through no fault of their own, are at risk of suffering a range of undesirable outcomes. The Hersheys were driven by philanthropic effectiveness, measured by the degree to which each individual was able to reach their full potential according to their own characteristics. HIS fully develops each orphan as a whole person according to such child's unique potential through its state-of-the-art program tailored around each individual by transforming him into an adult of exceptional character, prepared to make a living as an adult.

At one time or another, everyone has a wilderness experience, a time when life is barren and difficult and we feel alone and desperate, not knowing where to turn. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a financial or health crisis, divorce, or some other painful experience, we see no end in sight and wonder how we can make it through another day. In the Scriptures we see that often God’s people went through a wilderness experience, and these experiences changed them in profound ways. The truth is that it’s impossible to go through the wilderness without being changed. There’s a way through the wilderness that can leave us broken and bitter and far away from God. But there’s another way through—God’s way—that leaves us with a deeper faith and draws us closer to God than we ever imagined. With sensitivity and warmth, Rob Renfroe explores the wilderness experience—what it is, how we get there, why God allows it, and how we can get through it God’s way so that we learn the lessons that can be learned only in the desolate seasons of life when we are totally dependent on God. A DVD featuring six interviews with the author and a full leader guide are also available for group study.

There he found restoration and, in the solitude of a wilderness night, he learned ancient Bible truths that would alter his life forever.
