Theoretical And Practical Reason In Economics written by Ricardo F. Crespo and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-09-25 with Business & Economics categories.

The aim of the book is to argue for the restoration of theoretical and practical reason to economics. It presents Nancy Cartwright and Amartya Sen’s ideas as cases of this restoration and sees Aristotle as an influence on their thought. It looks at how we can use these ideas to develop a valuable understanding of practical reason for solving concrete problems in science and society. Cartwright’s capacities are real causes of events. Sen’s capabilities are the human person’s freedoms or possibilities. They relate these concepts to Aristotelian concepts. This suggests that these concepts can be combined. Sen’s capabilities are Cartwright’s capacities in the human realm; capabilities are real causes of events in economic life. Institutions allow us to deliberate on and guide our decisions about capabilities, through the use of practical reason. Institutions thus embody practical reason and infuse certain predictability into economic action. The book presents a case study: the UNDP’s HDI.

Taxonomy provides the basic building blocks of our understanding of the diversity of life on this planet. It stems from innate human curiosity; confronted with an unknown species or object we ask "what is it?" Taxonomists recognize species and other systematic unities (the taxa), define them and place them within the framework of known organisms, providing the means for their subsequent identification. The Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera (edited by I. & D. Löbl) gives a taxonomic overview of the most diverse group of all living things in the world's largest biogeographical area. It fixes nomenclature needed for unambiguous transfer of information, gives information about the occurrence of species and subspecies, and contains references that provide key information of over 40,000 systematic units. The work is a scaffold for biotic surveys, ecological studies, and nature conservation. It responds also to the urgent need of assessment of the still left forms of life, actually threatened by the on-going destruction of habitats. Contributors are: Robert B. Bachelor Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Psychology - Industrial and organizational psychology, grade: 1,6, University of Applied Sciences Hamm-Lippstadt, language: English, abstract: This thesis focuses on the impact of culture on the failure of crew resource management (CRM) in aviation. Three cultural aspects are used to identify what impact culture can have on the failure of CRM. Those three cultural aspects are safety culture, professional culture, and national culture. Furthermore, three case studies are brought as an example. They include the case of TransAsia Airways GE222, Garuda Indonesia GA200, and Korean Air 801. On the 27th of March in 1977 many planes had to be diverted to other Canarian airports caused by a bomb exploding at the airport of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. One of those was the small airport of Los Rodeos on the island of Tenerife that got very crowded due to the number of planes that had to be diverted, resulting in the runway having to be used as a taxiway. Two of the planes stranded at the airport were flight KLM 4805 and flight PAA 1736. When the bomb threat was lifted and the planes started to leave Los Rodeos, KLM 4805 was instructed to taxi down the runway, turn around, and then eventually take off. The PAA 1736 taxied the runway after the KLM 4805 and was instructed to leave the runway at exit three so the KLM 4805 could proceed with takeoff. The tower then cleared the KLM 4805 for takeoff but told them to stand by, as the PAA 1736 still maneuvered on the runway. Because of a communication issue, the KLM 4 805 understood its conversation with the tower as a clearance to takeoff and proceeded down the runway where it collided with the PAA 1736. All 248 passengers on board KLM 4805 died and so did 335 passengers on the flight of PAA 1736, making it the deadliest commercial aviation accident to this date, all because of a pilot error.

The Archaeology Of Political Organization written by Barbara L. Stark and has been published by Cotsen Institute of Archaeology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-01 with History categories.

In this volume, Barbara Stark examines settlement in the coastal plain of lowland Mesoamerica, which was richly endowed with fertile soil and valued tropical resources such as jaguars, cacao, avian species with bright plumage, and cotton. The book provides basic archaeological data about regional settlement from three decades of survey research in south-central Veracruz in the western lower Papaloapan basin, a region with low density urbanism. The data reveals political and social change, with consolidation of wealth by elite families during the Late Classic period. The political analysis considers archaeological evidence related to several organizational principles: collective versus autocratic, corporate versus exclusionary/network, and segmentary (unspecialized versus specialized). Many variables related to these principles used by other scholars are either suited to historically documented states, not archaeological ones, or ambiguous. Many published studies either focus on a particular city or use documents or other evidence drawn from the top of the settlement hierarchy, characterizing the whole society politically from a biased sample. This political analysis is regional in scope and attentive to variation in the settlement hierarchy, providing a guidepost to analysis of political principles with archaeological data.
