Religion in 50 Words: A Critical Vocabulary is the first of a two-volume work that seeks to transform the study of religion by offering a radically critical perspective. It does so by providing a succinct and critical examination of the key words used in the modern study of religion. Arranged alphabetically, the book explores the historic roots, varied uses, and current significance and utility of the technical terms used within the current field of religious studies. These are the terms that both students and scholars routinely deploy to think about, describe, and analyze data—sometimes without realizing that they are themselves technical tools in need of attention. Among the topics covered: Belief Critical Culture Definition Environment Gender Ideology Lived religion Material religion Orthodoxy Politics Race Sacred/profane Secular Theory This book submits all of its terms to a critical interrogation and subsequent re-description, thereby allowing a collective reframing of the field. This volume is an indispensable resource for students and academics working in religious studies.

God is upset with how man chooses to live and how he treats one another. Especially how governments abuse and fail to take care of their people. Man has chosen to reject Gods original message brought to the world by Jesus. Man twisted the words of God and created a religion based on sacrifice and repentance. God never intended to create a religion and Jesus did not come to save man from his sins. But to tell them that all men are God's children and they are all loved equally and worthy of his kingdom. Jesus and the apostles traveled spreading the word that Gentiles and lepers and all men regardless what they may have done in life are loved and if they repent their transgression all is forgiven as if it never happened. God's truth contradicted Jewish law and Jesus spreading of the true word was punishable by death. He knew his days were limited. At the last supper he told his apostles to continue with the spreading of Gods truth and to do it in it memory of me. After his death, Peter and Paul who believed in sacrifice and penance, created Christianity a religion that was not Jesus's or his Fathers intention. They have twisted his words and man as made changes to suit the agenda of Religious, Royalty, and other rich elitist mostly to control the peasants who slaved for them. God is upset at mans failure to evolve spiritual and that he clings to ancient beliefs based on false teachings of an ancient culture. He is giving man a final opportunity to hear the true message intended for his beloved children. The New Word of God tells of what God expects from man and teaches him how to live accordingly and how to use the gifts as a co-creator of his reality, that he may accept his divine nature, overcome his ego and awaken by living from his heart the true essence of his soul. This brings the Kingdom of God to earth, living as your spiritual being in physical form. It is the ultimate gift from God. However man is heading for destruction, as his creation of negativity and darkness has thrown the world off balance energy wise, favoring the dark over the good. God does not normally interfere with mans free will, except that it threatens the destiny of America, and her people. Mans destruction if his ways are continued affects all of creation and places the Spiritual in danger as well. This book contains prophecy of Gods changes that will be made to correct mans behavior, it is critical that you view it with an open mind, and to accept Gods message on faith. For those who doubt these truths brought forth by a chosen messenger of God, keep in mind the bible and all scriptures were channeled in a similar manner. The author as a messenger is not a prophet, simply a man who desires to serve God.

Alphabet of Faith explores what it means to live a life of faith and spirit in the 21st century in the context of Jesus’ commandment to love one another. Weaving together faith and culture, this breathtaking book explores what it means to live a life of faith and spirit in the 21st century. It brings together 26 “words” – such as energy, justice, liminal space, and X marks the spot – that reflect the challenges and joys of living in our beautiful but broken and often brutal world. It is unwaveringly contemporary, progressive, and thought-provoking. The pieces are written for those who say they are spiritual but not religious, for people who are or may be familiar with church but perhaps don’t attend anymore, for those who know Jesus and his teachings and are familiar with the Bible, even if they haven’t opened it in a while. Ultimately, these 26 “words” are for questioners and doubters who believe in kindness, mercy, and justice, as well as in science, and who seek a spiritual path that is inclusive and welcoming of conversation and transformation.

Abandon dead, dry, religious rule-keeping and embrace the promise of being truly known and deeply loved. Jefferson Bethke burst into the cultural conversation with a passionate, provocative poem titled "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus." The 4-minute video became an overnight sensation, with 7 million YouTube views in its first 48 hours (and 23+ million in a year). Bethke's message clearly struck a chord with believers and nonbelievers alike, triggering an avalanche of responses running the gamut from encouraged to enraged. In his New York Times bestseller Jesus > Religion, Bethke unpacks similar contrasts that he drew in the poem--highlighting the difference between teeth gritting and grace, law and love, performance and peace, despair, and hope. With refreshing candor, he delves into the motivation behind his message, beginning with the unvarnished tale of his own plunge from the pinnacle of a works-based, fake-smile existence that sapped his strength and led him down a path of destructive behavior. Along the way, Bethke gives you the tools you need to: Humbly and prayerfully open your mind Understand Jesus for all that he is View the church from a brand-new perspective Bethke is quick to acknowledge that he's not a pastor or theologian, but simply an ordinary, twenty-something who cried out for a life greater than the one for which he had settled. On this journey, Bethke discovered the real Jesus, who beckoned him with love beyond the props of false religion. Praise for Jesus > Religion: "Jeff's book will make you stop and listen to a voice in your heart that may have been drowned out by the noise of religion. Listen to that voice, then follow it--right to the feet of Jesus." --Bob Goff, author of New York Times bestsellers Love Does and Everybody, Always "The book you hold in your hands is Donald Miller's Blue Like Jazz meets C. S. Lewis's Mere Christianity meets Augustine's Confessions. This book is going to awaken an entire generation to Jesus and His grace." --Derwin L. Gray, lead pastor of Transformation Church, author of Limitless Life: Breaking Free from the Labels That Hold You Back

Communicating The Word written by David Marshall and has been published by Georgetown University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-11-17 with Religion categories.

Communicating the Word is a record of the 2008 Building Bridges seminar, an annual dialogue between leading Christian and Muslim scholars convened by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Featuring the insights of internationally known Christian and Muslim scholars, the essays collected here focus attention on key scriptural texts but also engage with both classical and contemporary Islamic and Christian thought. Issues addressed include, among others, the different ways in which Christians and Muslims think of their scriptures as the “Word of God,” the possibilities and challenges of translating scripture, and the methods—and conflicts—involved in interpreting scripture in the past and today. In his concluding reflections, Archbishop Rowan Williams draws attention to a fundamental point emerging from these fascinating contributions: “Islam and Christianity alike give a high valuation to the conviction that God speaks to us. Grasping what that does and does not mean . . . is challenging theological work.”

T. Dexter Collingsworth's Jesus Inc. Deprogramming from the Word of Faith Movement documents the events that led a Word of Faith Church Deacon from the movement to a place of healing. "It is a certainty that there are good preachers, pastors and churches to be found. I believe I may be accurate when I say that for every good one there are probably ten churches where the dollar reigns supreme. I am sure most believers don’t own the type of homes or automobiles or jet planes that these preachers do--and they call milking the poor for money they can’t afford a love offering, but I never have seen a single scripture where Jesus had His hand out for a love offering before He would heal someone—not afterward either. Man has placed himself on the throne of God and frankly I am incredibly perplexed that He puts up with this. Maybe He knows some of these false prophets will repent and return to righteousness. Maybe this book will help."
