An Account Of The British Settlement Of Aden In Arabia written by Frederick Mercer Hunter and has been published by Gale and the British Library this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1877 with History categories.

Excerpt from An Account of the British Settlement of Aden in Arabia The following monograph has been prepared at the request of Dr. W. W. Hunter, Director-General of Statistics to the Government of India, and so far as the local circumstances of Aden permitted, upon the general plan drawn up by him for all India. Since the publication of the History of Yemen by Captain Playfair in 1859, no account of the Settlement of Aden, beyond the yearly Administration Reports, has been written, and it is hoped that this compilation will be found useful if not interesting. Several subjects have been treated very cursorily owing to the absence of reliable data, but this very incompleteness will serve a purpose, if thereby the investigation be induced of matters which have been briefly or imperfectly noticed. Several officers and gentlemen have afforded assistance in collecting materials, and it is desired here to fully recognise the obligation due to them for their valuable co-operation. The compilation has been prepared in the intervals of current duties, and it is entirely due to the consideration shown the compiler by Brigadier-General Schneider, the Political Resident, that any measure of success has been attained. The work has been divided into six parts, and it may not be amiss to say a few words regarding each. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The English colony soon returned, and possessed themselves of the largest and most fertile quarter before the French could collect themselves; who, finding the Eng lish already occupied the best part, left a small c'olony on the other. But their chief, and the most adventurous of 'their inhabitants, went in search of a new settlement; when, after various fortune, and after combating the difficulties which an uncultivated country and some indiscretions of their own had caused them, they made a con siderable settlement in the islands of Martinico and Guadaloupe. The Settlement Of Disputes In Early Medieval Europe

The Settlement Of Disputes In Early Medieval Europe written by Wendy Davies and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992-04-23 with History categories.

This is a collection of original essays on the settlement of disputes in the early middle ages, a subject of central importance for social and political history. Case material, from the evidence of charters, is used to reveal the realities of the settlement process in the behaviour and interactions of people - instead of the prescriptive and idealised models of law-codes and edicts. The book is not therefore a technical study of charters evidence. The geographical range across Europe is unusually wide, which allows comparison across differing societies. Frankish material is inevitably prominent, but the contributors have sought to integrate Celtic, Greek, Italian and Spanish material into the mainstream of the subject. Above all, the book aims to 'demystify' the study of early medieval law, and to present a radical reappraisal of established assumptions about law and society.
