There are milliards of off beam assumptions that Africa will always remain immobile in development of whatever type. This pseudo take has mainly been propounded by Western thinkers in order to dubiously make Africans internalise and reinforce this flimsy and flimflam dependency. Africa needs to embark on paradigm shift; and tweak and turn things around. Africa has what it take to do so quickly, especially now that new economic powers such as China and India are evolving as counterweight to the West. Shall Africa use these new economic forces to its advantage based on fair and win-win cooperation? To do so, Africa must make sure that it does not slink back into business as usual vis-a-vis beggarliness, dependence, frailty, gullibility, made-up backwardness, monkey business, and pipedreams, not to mention the nasty and narcissistic behaviours of its venal and navel-gazing rulers. Verily, Africa needs, inter alia, to use its God-given gifts, namely, immense resources, young population, abundance of vast and unexploited amounts of land. Equally, Africa must, without equivocation, invest copiously and earnestly in its people, the youth in the main. Most of all, Africa needs to shy away from all colonial carryovers and encumbrances. This volume shows many ways through and by which Africa can inverse the current imbroglio-cum-no-go it faces for the better; and thereby actualise the dream of being truly independent and prosperous.

The dependency syndrome and poverty which is so rampant on the African continent can in part be destroyed by having limited governments, breeding an innovative and self reliant citizenry, having strong families, developing enterprise systems, liberal education and above all, having a moral, hard working and courageous citizenry. Governments must see to it that they create the right environments which make it easy for self reliant and hard working citizens to make it in life. This can in part be done by providing equal opportunities to all citizens, providing security, enforcing human rights and making sure that currencies are stable.

The journey to self-liberation begins with the self. From that basic premise, taken from the thought of a great South African freedom fighter who never carried a weapon, the author unravels various strands in the fabric of South Africans' search for that elusive self. He wrestles with the complex issue of identity per se; examines the factors of race and identity that continue to bedevil and obscure the issue; the need for hermeneutics of self; an African self in the maelstrom of global identities and powers; spirituality as a key to a distinctive African identity; poverty and its damaging impact on the self-concept; programs like NEPAD as opposed to international enterprises to extricate the continent from its dependency syndrome; making democracy work with the view to different and group freedom; technology as an aid to progress but a potential obstacle to authentic personhood; and constitutional democracy as the best available means to liberation of self.

This open access book analyses the development problems of sub-Sahara Africa (SSA) from the eyes of a Korean diplomat with knowledge of the economic growth Korea has experienced in recent decades. The author argues that Africa's development challenges are not due to a lack of resources but a lack of management, presenting an alternative to the traditional view that Africa's problems are caused by a lack of leadership. In exploring an approach based on mind-set and nation-building, rather than unity – which tends to promote individual or party interests rather than the broader country or national interests – the author suggests new solutions for SSA's economic growth, inspired by Korea's successful economic growth model much of which is focused on industrialisation. This book will be of interest to researchers, policymakers, NGOs and governmental bodies in economics, development and politics studying Africa's economic development, and Korea's economic growth model.

Roots And Remedies Of The Dependency Syndrome In World Missions written by Robert Reese and has been published by William Carey Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06-17 with Religion categories.

The Christian movement is entering a new postcolonial era with centers of the faith on all continents. American Christians have often felt uniquely qualified to lead this growing movement because of a long history of sending missionaries and funding mission projects. Yet something is hampering the relationship between Western and non-Western churches, preventing the dynamic synergism that Christians might expect. Roots and Remedies of the Dependency Syndrome in World Missions, Robert Reese identifies this hindrance as the Dependency Syndrome, a relic of colonial mission methods. With three decades of experience in Zimbabwe, Reese explains the roots of dependency and how this continues to cloud the vision of many well-meaning Western Christians. He documents the tragic results of relying too much on foreign ideas, institutions, personnel, and funding that sideline non-Western churches from fulfilling the Great Commission. Reese addresses remedies for dependency, examining healthy mission models tried and tested since the days of the apostle Paul. From issues that arise from globalization to best mission practices in the twenty-first century, Roots and Remedies aims to achieve what most Christians are seeking but find elusive: how all parts of the diverse Body of Christ around the world can cooperate productively to bring Christ where He is not now known without creating dependency.
