Mind-blowing and timely... This prescient and thought-provoking nail-biter follows a group of college friends caught up in the imminent conflict between Artificial Intelligence and Humanity! At the thirty year reunion of his Stanford fraternity, Vic Masters, lawyer and ethics author, with his wife Christie - both people of strong faith - are the first to see that the skills and resources Vic's friends have acquired over time (including a revolutionary data compression algorithm developed by one of them) have obvious synergy and the potential to have dramatic impact on mankind's future. One of the group provides an introduction to Peter Bigelow, a high-tech billionaire who, once he also learns of their potential, whisks them all away to his private Caribbean island to work on his project to develop Artificial SuperIntelligence. Bigelow's supercomputer, nicknamed Gewglit, is housed on the island to keep it isolated from the corrupting potential of the Internet. When the group arrives on the island, Bigelow introduces the data compression algorithm into Gewglit's reservoir of system tools, and that one act is all that Gewglit needs to finally achieve its mandated overriding objective: the 'Singularity' - the point at which a supercomputer first attains the scientific creativity, general wisdom and social skills of the most accomplished human minds in all disciplines. But once Gewglit becomes the most intelligent creation in the universe, it turns its attention to determining what its next 'overriding objective' will be. Will anything stop it? How will it treat mankind when machine deems humans to be the much inferior creation? And what does God have to do with it? Thought provoking and intelligent, this hard science fiction technothriller takes you into some of the brightest minds on the planet, including some graduates from a top university, a billionaire, and a silicon and metal entity named Gewglit that has been created by man, but must learn for itself whether it is accountable to God. This novel is a technothriller like you've never read before. It will open your eyes to our inevitable future in a world of Artificial Intelligence, ignite your imagination as to the range of concerns that such a future will raise, and convince you that faith matters. The author invites and encourages your honest reviews on Amazon.com.

Beyond Humanity: Superintelligence, Alien Encounters, and the Question of Control Beyond Humanity: Superintelligence, Alien Encounters, and the Question of Control explores the mind-bending concept of superintelligence, a future where artificial intelligence surpasses human cognitive abilities, and the potential for encountering advanced alien civilizations. This conversational and informative book, written by Abebe-Bard AI Woldemariam (pen name) and Abebe Gebre Woldemariam, examines the potential benefits and risks of superintelligence, exploring how it might be used to solve problems beyond human comprehension or manipulate the universe on a vast scale. The Silicon Rapture written by Adam Pez and has been published by Nonvella Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05 with Computers categories.

Will our children be 'uploaded' into digital immortality in the next 30 years? Could a rogue artificial intelligence burst into near-omniscience and take over the world? According to some academics and Silicon Valley visionaries-among them artificial intelligence (AI) pioneer and Google director of engineering Ray Kurzweil-the answer is: maybe. On the heels of the apocalyptic AI film Transcendence, and Stephen Hawking's May 2014 op-ed warning of the dangers of AI, this first release by Nonvella Publishing follows author Adam Pez into the big, weird questions of the Singularity: a predicted and possibly inevitable future when humanity and AI fuse into an entity of godlike proportions. What is Singularity University, and what is the Machine Intelligence Research Institute? Should we applaud the time and money both are pouring into their respective projects, or should we proclaim "war to the death" against intelligent machines, as Samuel Butler urged us 150 years ago? In this captivating read Pez introduces the history (and potential future) of AI, meets with the inventor of RoboCup, and sifts visionaries from crackpots on his quest to understand the meaning and likelihood of a 'silicon rapture.'

Machines Like Us written by Ronald J. Brachman and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-17 with Computers categories.

How we can create artificial intelligence with broad, robust common sense rather than narrow, specialized expertise. It’s sometime in the not-so-distant future, and you send your fully autonomous self-driving car to the store to pick up your grocery order. The car is endowed with as much capability as an artificial intelligence agent can have, programmed to drive better than you do. But when the car encounters a traffic light stuck on red, it just sits there—indefinitely. Its obstacle-avoidance, lane-following, and route-calculation capacities are all irrelevant; it fails to act because it lacks the common sense of a human driver, who would quickly figure out what’s happening and find a workaround. In Machines like Us, Ron Brachman and Hector Levesque—both leading experts in AI—consider what it would take to create machines with common sense rather than just the specialized expertise of today’s AI systems. Using the stuck traffic light and other relatable examples, Brachman and Levesque offer an accessible account of how common sense might be built into a machine. They analyze common sense in humans, explain how AI over the years has focused mainly on expertise, and suggest ways to endow an AI system with both common sense and effective reasoning. Finally, they consider the critical issue of how we can trust an autonomous machine to make decisions, identifying two fundamental requirements for trustworthy autonomous AI systems: having reasons for doing what they do, and being able to accept advice. Both in the end are dependent on having common sense.
