The 1760s were a period of great agitation in the American colonies. The policies implemented by the British resulted in an outcry from the Americans that inaugurated the radical ideas leading to the Revolution in 1775. John Dickinson led the way in the "war of ink" between America and Britain, which saw over 1,000 pamphlets and essays written both for and against British policy. King George III, the new British monarch, wrote extensively on the role of Britain in the colonial world and sought to find a middle way between the quickly rising feelings on both sides of the debate. This book tells the story of this radical decade as it occurred in writing, drawing from primary sources and rarely seen exchanges.

A Colony Of The World written by Eugene J. McCarthy and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992 with Fiction categories.

"In his introduction to A Colony of the World, Eugene McCarthy asserts that classical, historical colonialism is marked by distinctive political, military, economic, demographic and cultural characteristics. Politically and militarily, a colony is usually dependent to some degree upon the directions of its controlling country. Economically and culturally, colonial status is evident in loss of control over borders, religion and language." "Major investment in a colony is from outside, with control held by the investing powers. A colony is usually a supplier of raw materials and a purchaser of manufactured goods. Its economy and financial institutions operate within the monetary system of the mother country, controlling nations or institutions." "In A Colony of the World, Eugene McCarthy asserts that the United States is now in a colonial, or neocolonial, relationship to a combination of outside and inside forces which impose a colonial status on the country." "In 1948, Eugene McCarthy won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota; from 1958 through 1970, he served two terms in the U.S. Senate. His opposition to the war in Vietnam incited him to challenge Lyndon Johnson for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1968, and he ran for president as an independent in 1976." "Since retiring from the Senate, McCarthy has taught university courses in politics, literature and history. His articles have appeared in major publications and he has written books on a variety of topics. His most recent book is Required Reading: A Decade of Political Wit and Wisdom."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved

This book entitled "From the Colonization of America to the Partition of Africa" is a book that covers the Modern and Contemporary history of Europe, America and Africa. It's about the conquest and subsequent colonization of America and Africa from the Era of Discovery to the emergence of decolonization after the end of the Second World War. The colonization of Africa by European powers began with the manor conquest of the Canary archipelago that began in 1402 by the Castilian nobility, and the conquest of Ceuta in 1415 by the Portuguese Crown. However, after the discovery of America in 1492, these first European colonizers (Spain and Portugal) lost interest in the African continent, although the Portuguese established trading posts along all the Atlantic coasts of Africa to the Indian Ocean. After the decline and fall of the empires of the Modern Age between 1763 and 1825 as a result of territorial losses of European powers in America, these powers then turned their attention to Africa in search of new territories for their expansion and new markets for their economic growth. The five powers involved were Spain, Portugal, France, Great Britain and the Netherlands, although this last country left the colonial race at the end of the nineteenth century after it ceded its last African territory (the Netherlands' Gold Coast) to the Great Britain under the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1871. In 1763, France ceded its vast territory in America to England after its defeat in the Seven Years' War; In 1783 England recognized the independence of the USA losing that territory; Between 1810 and 1825 Spain lost all its American colonies except Cuba and Puerto Rico; and in 1822 Portugal lost Brazil after the latter declared its independence from the former. Each of these four powers will constitute its second empire marking the beginning of new imperialism, and will fight to acquire territories in Africa so as to be able to constitute new empires. This would lead to the convening of the Berlin Conference between 1884 and 1885 where the powers (including new powers like the German Empire) would decide on how to share up Africa. However, this Contemporary colonialism will come to an end after the end of Second World War when the United Nations General Assembly institutionalized the Committee of Decolonization to end colonialism.
