Monografija o Mariji Tereziji se pridružuje številnim obeležitvam 300. obletnice rojstva cesarice Marije Terezije, ki so potekale v letu 2017. Vladarica je bila v preteklosti pogosto objekt znanstvenega raziskovanja, a večinoma v tujem zgodovinopisju. Slovensko zgodovinopisje se je do sedaj z njenim življenjem in vladanjem ukvarjalo sorazmerno malo. Pričujoča monografija tako prinaša številne nove ugotovitve in nove poglede na Marijo Terezijo in njeno dobo. Pri monografiji je sodelovalo več kot dvajset priznanih raziskovalcev, večinoma iz Slovenije, nekaj pa tudi iz tujine. Izhodišče prispevkov je slovenski prostor in vplivi cesaričnih reform nanj. Te reforme so bile korenite, temeljite in dolgoročne, kar pomeni, da njihove učinke čutimo še danes, čeprav se tega morda ne zavedamo. Druga rdeča nit monografije pa je ohranjanje spomina na Marijo Terezijo na Slovenskem kot tudi v njenih nekdanjih deželah, ki so danes samostojne države (Avstrija, Madžarska, Hrvaška in Češka). Monografija je napisana pretežno v slovenskem jeziku, medtem ko so prispevki tujih avtorjev v tujem jeziku (nemško, angleško, italijansko in hrvaško) z daljšim slovenskim povzetkom.

This is the first volume specifically dedicated to the consolidation and clarification of Heritage Studies as a distinct field with its own means of investigation. It presents the range of methods that can be used and illustrates their application through case studies from different parts of the world, including the UK and USA. “The Disappearing Tombstone and Other Stories from Emona" is a collection of ten stories about real people, who once lived in Emona or the surrounding countryside. These stories shed light on the everyday lives and often highly unusual fates of these people. The eleventh story reveals why the Romans believed that Emona had been founded by Jason and his Argonauts. The myth would lead later historians to believe that Emona was older than Rome. The stories are based on the inscriptions from Roman funerary and other monuments, which are kept the lapidarium of the National Museum of Slovenia and in the City Museum of Ljubljana (MGML). The booklet is partly a result of the EAGLE project (“Europeana Network of Ancient Greek and Latin Epigraphy") and partly of the programme “Archaeological Investigations" of the Institute of Archaeology ZRC SAZU.

Shallow subterranean habitats (SSHs) are areas of habitable space that are less than 10 m in depth from the surface. These range from large areas such as shallow caves and lava tubes, to tiny areas such as cracks in ceilings, or spaces in soil. Whilst being very different in many ways, they are often bound together by shared characteristics of the habitats and their faunas, and their study can help us to understand subterranean habitats in general. This book concentrates on the more typical SSHs of intermediate size (seepage springs, spaces between rocks, cracks in lava etc.), describing the habitats, their fauna, and the ecological and evolutionary questions posed. Similarities and differences between the habitats are considered and discussed in a broader ecological and evolutionary context. Modern science started studying the Smlednik Castle over a century and a half ago. However, what might be even more important is the fact that more or less intense conservation works have been carried out at this location for over half a century. Regardless of this there is almost no expert literature on the castle to be found: short papers can be counted on the fingers of one hand, while monograph publications are sought in vain. The situation regarding contributions that promotes cultural heritage is somewhat better. The purpose of the book in front of you is thus clear: to present the history of the research and conservation efforts as well as the findings gained from the latest research in one book. This is the English translation of the original publication in Slovenian Grad Smlednik. Raziskave 2011-2012 published in 2013 as the second issue of the series Monografije CPA. The translation differs from the original in two ways. First, it omits the appendices. Secondly, a chapter on 3D scanning of the Smlednik Castle in 2007 including interactive 3D model is added. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Več kot stoletje in pol je minilo, odkar je moderna znanost pričela s preučevanjem gradu Smlednik, in kar je morda še pomembneje, že več kot pol stoletja potekajo na gradu bolj ali manj intenzivni konservatorski posegi. Kljub temu je bera znanstvene in strokovne literature o gradu izjemno skromna: krajše prispevke lahko preštejemo na prste ene roke, monografske objave pa iščemo zaman. Namen knjige, ki je pred vami, je torej jasen: predstaviti zgodovino raziskav in konservatorskih posegov ter izsledke najnovejših raziskav. Na tem mestu je objavljen angleški prevod izvirnika z naslovom Grad Smlednik. Raziskave 2011-2012, ki je izšel leta 2013 kot drugi zvezek zbirkeMonografije CPA. Prevod se od izvirnika razlikuje v dveh pogledih. Prvič, v prevodu ni prilog. Drugič, dodano je poglavje o trirazsežnem skeniranju gradu Smlednik, ki vključuje tudi interaktivni trirazsežni model.
