The Rise And Rise Of Illegal Ticket Touting written by Alessandro Moretti and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-02-10 with Social Science categories.

This book presents an ethnographic study of contemporary ticket touts in the UK. Despite the recent interest in the topic of black-market ticket sales, media coverage and parliamentary interventions over the last ten years have revealed a widespread lack of knowledge with regard to the phenomenon of touting and the players engaging in the practice. The Rise and Rise of Illegal Ticket Touting sheds light on the world of touting and delivers an authentic picture of the individuals involved, of their methods, values, and motivations for performing ticket touting as an organised, entrepreneurial deviant activity. The touts’ varied methods of buying and selling tickets, the hierarchical structures and strict ethos of their criminal organisations, and their specific modi operandi for evading detection and arrest both on the streets and online are focal points of the study. Of equal importance are the touts’ attitudes, perceptions, and adaptations to (or outright dismissal of) society’s legal and moral frameworks. This book illuminates why historic and renewed attempts to challenge ticket touting have been unsuccessful, focusing on inadequate legislation, a lack of enforcement, and the widespread corruption and exploitable loopholes that exist within the official, primary ticket market. An accessible and compelling read, The Rise and Rise of Illegal Ticket Touting will appeal to students and scholars of criminology, sociology, social policy, policing and all those with an interest in live music and sport and the hidden practices that lurk beneath the surface.

Lost written by Anthony Carragher and has been published by Troubador Publishing Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-10 with Sports & Recreation categories.

As Liverpool F.C. reach their 125th anniversary, amidst the celebrations, doubts persist. Are they still elite? Can their prolonged title drought be ended? Foreign owners say they came to win but the trophy cabinet lies bare. Where to next for the reds? Lost? explores the gloried past, the moneyed present and the uncertain future of both Liverpool F.C. and the English game at large. Have they lost their way? Liverpool F.C.’s most famous manager, Bill Shankly, declared that the club ‘exists to win trophies’ and for many years this maxim proved true, as Liverpool became one of the most successful clubs in European football and dominated the scene in England for over two decades. Yet recently, the victories have dried up and Liverpool have not won the league title in over a quarter of a century. Football is also in a state of flux as major TV deals have made the Premier league the wealthiest in the world, but the gap between the elite clubs and those striving to catch up widens. Has the game lost it’s soul? Who will rise and who will fall as a new uncharted era in football unfolds? Lost? captures exclusive interviews with key figures including former Liverpool managers, Brendan Rogers and Roy Evans, the Shankly family and a whole host of footballing legends, past and present. The book also includes reflective pieces on an array of Premier League clubs from both a sporting and cultural perspective, looking not just at the team in isolations, but also at the communities and landscapes that shape them

More than Ninety Minutes is an analysis of tactics, signings, managers, players, and club directors' decisions. Based on real examples taken from recent soccer history, the author dissects these people's mistakes, their successes, and how their actions on and off the pitch impacted their play and their trophy cabinets. It is a critical account arising from a weekly study made over the course of ten years of the top European leagues and clubs such as Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund. The author presents and compares the processes followed by these teams–the ones that were successful as well as those that failed–while analytically assessing the most important aspects that make up the game of soccer. The book selects specific situations in relevant clubs where tactics, psychology, and the ability to manage a group of players are combined. Without claiming to find a nonexistent magic formula, it helps the reader–whether they are simply a fan, manager, player, or director–to understand the intricacies of this complex sport and to put themselves on the road that is certain to lead to success. This book is one of a kind in the history of soccer literature, and it is written in a readable, emphatic, and reflexive style.

This is the first critical, in-depth academic study of FC Barcelona (also known as Barça), one of the world’s great football clubs, exploring the historical, political, cultural and commercial dimensions of this global sporting institution. The book examines why and how the club grew from its genesis as a small sporting organisation in the developing urban landscape of Barcelona in 1899 to become a contemporary giant that has both shaped and transcended football. It considers how globalisation, cultural identity and political ideology can help us to understand the development of Barça, but also how the growth of the phenomenon of FC Barcelona helps us to better understand those forces shaping contemporary global societies. It brings together leading scholars from around the world to examine key themes such as governance, regional and national politics, storytelling, fandom, digital media, branding, commercialisation and sport diplomacy, exploring topics such as the European Super League fiasco and the rise of Lionel Messi as a global icon. It also includes a series of chapters looking at the importance of FC Barcelona around the world, including in Latin America, the United States, Africa and East Asia. This illuminating, multi-disciplinary study of FC Barcelona is essential reading for anybody with an interest in football, Catalonian politics and culture, or the history, politics, culture and business of sport.

Gaming The World written by Andrei S. Markovits and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-05-17 with Sports & Recreation categories.

The globalizing influence of professional sports Professional sports today have truly become a global force, a common language that anyone, regardless of their nationality, can understand. Yet sports also remain distinctly local, with regional teams and the fiercely loyal local fans that follow them. This book examines the twenty-first-century phenomenon of global sports, in which professional teams and their players have become agents of globalization while at the same time fostering deep-seated and antagonistic local allegiances and spawning new forms of cultural conflict and prejudice. Andrei Markovits and Lars Rensmann take readers into the exciting global sports scene, showing how soccer, football, baseball, basketball, and hockey have given rise to a collective identity among millions of predominantly male fans in the United States, Europe, and around the rest of the world. They trace how these global—and globalizing—sports emerged from local pastimes in America, Britain, and Canada over the course of the twentieth century, and how regionalism continues to exert its divisive influence in new and potentially explosive ways. Markovits and Rensmann explore the complex interplay between the global and the local in sports today, demonstrating how sports have opened new avenues for dialogue and shared interest internationally even as they reinforce old antagonisms and create new ones. Gaming the World reveals the pervasive influence of sports on our daily lives, making all of us citizens of an increasingly cosmopolitan world while affirming our local, regional, and national identities.

Watching The Olympics written by John Sugden and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-04-27 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Global sporting events involve the creation, management and mediation of cultural meanings for consumption by massive media audiences. The apotheosis of this cultural form is the Olympic Games. This challenging and provocative new book explores the Olympic spectacle, from the multi-media bidding process and the branding and imaging of the Games, to security, surveillance and control of the Olympic product across all of its levels. The book argues that the process of commercialization, directed by the IOC itself, has enabled audiences to interpret its traditional objects in non-reverential ways and to develop oppositional interpretations of Olympism. The Olympics have become multi-voiced and many themed, and the spectacle of the contemporary Games raises important questions about institutionalization, the doctrine of individualism, the advance of market capitalism, performance, consumption and the consolidation of global society. With particular focus on the London Games in 2012, the book casts a critical eye over the bidding process, Olympic finance, promises of legacy and development, and the consequences of hosting the Games for the civil rights and liberties of those living in their shadow. Few studies have offered such close scrutiny of the inner workings of Olympism’s political and economic network, and, therefore, this book is indispensible reading for any student or researcher with an interest in the Olympics, sport's multiple impacts, or sporting mega-events.
