Those were the years that Fernando Gamboa was the director of the museum. A Confederação Brasileira de Kendo (CBK) recebeu o convite do designer e editor Fábio Amador Bueno para escrever o livro sobre Kendo, para a Coleção Artes Marciais da Editora On Line; imediatamente, na reunião mensal da CBK, nomeei o professor Dr. Yashiro Yamamoto, diretor-cultural da entidade, para redigi-lo, os professores Paulo Yoshinobu Hayashi e Oscar Yukio Hayashi para posar para as fotos de Kendogata (forma de Kendo) e de waza (técnica de golpe), e os professores Hiroyoshi Ishibashi e Akinori Kojima para revisar os textos. Agradeço ao Sr. Yuji Toita, pela paciente pesquisa em jornais para a elaboração da relação dos agraciados com o Prêmio Paulista de Esportes (página 16). Graças ao trabalho em equipe, com a colaboração de todos na busca de informações, foi possível concluir esta obra de divulgação do Kendo para o público amante das artes marciais e também servir de referência para os praticantes deste esporte, que se originou de uma arte marcial denominada Kenjutsu. Aproveito a oportunidade para ressaltar a feliz coincidência da publicação deste livro no ano em que o Brasil e o Japão comemoram o Centenário da Imigração Japonesa. É importante salientar que o Kendo veio ao Brasil com os primeiros nipônicos que aqui aportaram, em 18 de junho de 1908, no navio Kasato Maru; no trajeto (que durou cerca de um mês e meio), os imigrantes praticaram o esporte a bordo do navio. Acredito que a paciência e o espírito de luta desses pioneiros japoneses os ajudaram no desbravamento da mata virgem, no esforço de transformá-la em terra agricultável, e também a superar as diferenças culturais, climáticas e linguísticas. O espírito guerreiro, aliado ao comportamento nobre e à capacidade de suportar desafios, sem esmorecer, são fatores que acredito serem fundamentais na formação dos praticantes de Kendo e transformadores destes em cidadãos úteis à sociedade, patriotas, respeitadores das leis e cumpridores de seus deveres.
