Au milieu des années 1970, un chercheur dans le domaine du stress, Aaron Antonovsky, a eu une intuition révolutionnaire dans l'univers des sciences de la santé : et si l'on tentait de comprendre ce qui génère la santé, la «salutogénèse», plutôt que de se concentrer essentiellement sur ce qui produit la maladie, la «pathogenèse», comme on le faisait depuis des siècles? Il commença donc à formuler une théorie à cet effet et à la vérifier empiriquement. Son décès prématuré dans les années 1990 a ralenti le développement de cette théorie, qui avait déjà commencé à susciter beaucoup d'intérêt. Heureusement, deux chercheurs scandinaves intéressés à la promotion de la santé, Bengt Lindström et Monica Ericksson, ont pris le relais au début des années 2000 et sont devenus la plaque tournante internationale de la recherche sciientifique sur la salutogenèse. Dans ce petit ouvrage écrit en 2010, ces deux chercheurs présentent de manière claire et concise ce qu'est la salutogenèse en tant qu'idée générale, en plus de faire le point sur les développements considérables que la théorie salutogénique d'antonovsky a connus à l'échelle de la planète depuis une quinzaine d'années et de discuter des acquis et des défis qui y sont liés. Ce livre permet, pour la première fois en langue française, de comprendre les possibilités et les limites de la salutogenèse, non seulement en tant que théorie, mais aussi en tant qu'orientation générale pour aborder les enjeux de santé du XXe siècle. A ce titre, il intéressera au premier chef les chercheurs et les praticiens des diverses disciplines du domaine de la santé et des services sociaux, mais aussi un grand public averti, curieux de constater les évidences scientifiques dont on dispose quant à l'effet d'une approche salutogénique pour promouvoir la santé des individus, des groupes et des populations.

Defending ethics in sport is vital in order to combat the problems of corruption, violence, drugs, extremism and other forms of discrimination it is currently facing. Sport reflects nothing more and nothing less than the societies in which it takes place. However, if sport is to continue to bring benefits for individuals and societies, it cannot afford to neglect its ethical values or ignore these scourges. The major role of the Council of Europe and the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) in addressing the new challenges to sports ethics was confirmed by the 11th Council of Europe Conference of Ministers responsible for Sport, held in Athens on 11 and 12 December 2008. A political impetus was given on 16 June 2010 by the Committee of Ministers, with the adoption of an updated version of the Code of Sports Ethics (Recommendation CM/Rec(2010)9), emphasising the requisite co-ordination between governments and sports organisations. The EPAS prepared the ministerial conference and stepped up its work in an international conference organised with the University of Rennes, which was attended by political leaders, athletes, researchers and officials from the voluntary sector. The key experiences described in the conference and the thoughts that it prompted are described in this publication. All the writers share the concern that the end result should be practical action - particularly in terms of the setting of standards - that falls within the remit of the EPAS and promotes the Council of Europe's core values.
