Originally published in 1924, Copse 125 (Das Wäldchen 125) is Ernst Jünger's third book, where he further recounts his experiences in one particularly treacherous stretch of the Western Front. In Copes 125, Jünger chronicles the deadlocked positions of battle located in an "isolated little patch of wood" during the last year of the war. Along with his later recollections of the event, Jünger also shares his ruminations concerning the material and spiritual implications of the front line warrior. This is a new English translation of Das Wäldchen 125, published by E.S. Mittler & Son, Berlin, Germany, 1925.

Religious Internationalism written by Matthew Lon Weaver and has been published by Mercer University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Philosophy categories.

Religious Internationalism assembles and assesses for the first time the ethics of war and peace in the writings of Paul Tillich. It sketches the evolution of Tillich's thought from the period of his service in the German Imperial Army through the time of the Cold War. The work begins by analyzing Tillich's theological roots and his World War I chaplaincy sermons as the starting point for his thoughts on power and nationalism. Then, Religious Internationalism looks to his postwar turn to socialist thought and his participation in religious socialism, fueling his cultural analyses and culminating in his forced emigration under Hitler. Next, it probes the American interwar period, giving special attention to Tillich's self-described boundary perspective as well as the one treatise he wrote on religion and international affairs. The book also examines his Voice of America speeches, written and broadcast into his former homeland during World War II. Weaver next considers Tillich's message to his English-speaking audience of that period, emphasizing social and world reconstruction. The discussion continues by examining his vision of a path toward personhood in a bipolar world. Finally, the book constructs Tillich's ethics of war and peace as an ethic of religious internationalism, suggesting adjustments intended to give it more universal significance. The study concludes that Tillich's thought has provocative contributions to make to debates regarding civilizational conflict, economics and international justice, trade and globalization, the defense of unprotected minorities, and immigration policy. Kuno, a male nurse in an old people s home in Switzerland, has a new inmate: his father. In the isolation of the home, they finally start talking. Kuno had always regarded his father as boring, a man without a history and without a destiny until one day he realizes that he had once risked his life in the war. His ageing father had a destiny, and what a destiny it was! This realization changes Kuno s life, and he embarks on a journey into his own psyche which takes him to the depths of the Congo. Longings awaken and dreams come true rays of light in the darkness, meetings with kings, seductive women and the songs of the jungle: the alluring far-away places which he once regarded as the heart of darkness become an adventurous, exciting scene of lunacy, wildness and a test of his own inner strength. In his characteristic manner, Urs Widmer spins yet another riveting yarn, but this time he threads through the many aspects of the relationship between Europe and Africa an always timely tale. "

Studying The Jew written by Alan E. Steinweis and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-03-15 with History categories.

Early in his political career, Adolf Hitler declared the importance of what he called “an antisemitism of reason.” Determined not to rely solely on traditional, cruder forms of prejudice against Jews, he hoped that his exclusionary and violent policies would be legitimized by scientific scholarship. The result was a disturbing, and long-overlooked, aspect of National Socialism: Nazi Jewish Studies. Studying the Jew investigates the careers of a few dozen German scholars who forged an interdisciplinary field, drawing upon studies in anthropology, biology, religion, history, and the social sciences to create a comprehensive portrait of the Jew—one with devastating consequences. Working within the universities and research institutions of the Third Reich, these men fabricated an elaborate empirical basis for Nazi antisemitic policies. They supported the Nazi campaign against Jews by defining them as racially alien, morally corrupt, and inherently criminal. In a chilling story of academics who perverted their talents and distorted their research in support of persecution and genocide, Studying the Jew explores the intersection of ideology and scholarship, the state and the university, the intellectual and his motivations, to provide a new appreciation of the use and abuse of learning and the horrors perpetrated in the name of reason.
