Die katholische Kirche lehnt Gender als eine Ideologie ab, weil hier das Geschlecht radikal losgelöst von biologischen Vorgaben begriffen und auf diese Weise zur frei wählbaren Konstruktion werde. Diese "anthropologische Revolution" (Benedikt XVI.) stehe im Widerspruch zur Schöpfungswirklichkeit, wonach Gott den Menschen männlich und weiblich geschaffen hat. Bei genauem Hinsehen ist dieser Ideologievorwurf nicht haltbar. Vielmehr gilt: Was die katholische Kirche über Gender sagt, sagt mehr über die katholische Kirche als über Gender aus. Es verweist auf eine kirchenlehramtliche Anthropologie, die integrative Optionen für sogenannte LGBTIQ-Personen, aber auch Geschlechtergerechtigkeit innerhalb der Kirche selbst behindert. Diese Behinderung gilt es theologisch aufzubrechen.
