A partir de la figura de Luis Aresti, trasunto en mucho del doctor Areilza, m�dico del Hospital minero de Triano, el novelista sintetiza los conflictos sociales conformadores de la Vizcaya moderna, que enfrentan a los antiguos carlistas, parapetados tras el partido nacionalista de reciente creaci�n, y apoyados por los jesuitas de Deusto, con el proletariado minero y de los altos hornos, cogiendo en medio a los burgueses liberales que hab�an desarrollado la ciudad.Vicente Blasco Ib��ez en El Intruso (1904) nos ofrece una descripci�n naturalista de las condiciones de trabajo y habitabilidad de la miner�a vasca del hierro en torno a Triano (Vizkaya, Bizkaia). El autor levantino nos expone el punto de vista empresarial, el de los contratistas, capataces y obreros, as� como el del propio m�dico minero. El distrito minero vizca�no aparece all� descrito con abundancia de detalles referidos, por ejemplo, al transporte del mineral (mediante planos inclinados, tranv�as a�reos, vagonetas, ferrocarriles y embarcaderos y cargaderos de los muelles), al paisaje alterado, a la actividad de las compa��as extranjeras o a la inmigraci�n asociada al trabajo de las minasEl Intruso (1904) es, quizas, la novela m�s pol�tica de Vicente Blasco Ib��ez (1867-1928). Basando la novela en Luis Aresti, el cual es descrito con identico perfil que el del doctor Areilza, m�dico del Hospital minero de Triano, el novelista sintetiza los conflictos sociales conformadores de la Vizcaya moderna, que enfrentan a los antiguos carlistas, parapetados tras el partido nacionalista de reciente creaci�n, y apoyados por los jesuitas de Deusto, con el proletariado minero y de los altos hornos, cogiendo en medio a los burgueses liberales que hab�an desarrollado la ciudad. Fueron los primeros encontronazos entre bizkaitarras y proletarios en su mayoria emigrantes, llamados despectivamente "maketos", el once de octubre de 1903 se enfrentaron en Bilbao violentamente miles de personas, era domingo y ademas el dia de la patrona de Bizkaia, la virgen de Bego�a (Bego�a�ko Ama) Un cura grito "�Vivan los bizkaitarras!" y un joven le contesto "�Viva la Republica!" fue rodeado y apalizado, se le dio por muerto, consigui� llegar vivo al hospital. Las cosas venian de atr�s, ambos bandos llegaban preparados, despu�s de este dia se juraron odio eterno.
