Musical Minorities is the first English-language monograph on the performing arts of an ethnic minority in Vietnam. Living primarily in the northern mountains, the Hmong have strategically maintained their cultural distance from foreign invaders and encroaching state agencies for almost two centuries. They use cultural heritage as a means of maintaining a resilient community identity, one which is malleable to their everyday needs and to negotiations among themselves and with others in the vicinity. Case studies of revolutionary songs, countercultural rock, traditional vocal and instrumental styles, tourist shows, animist and Christian rituals, and light pop from the diaspora illustrate the diversity of their creative outputs. This groundbreaking study reveals how performing arts shape understandings of ethnicity and nationality in contemporary Vietnam. Based on three years of fieldwork, Lonán Ó Briain traces the circulation of organized sounds that contribute to the adaptive capacities of this diverse social group. In an original investigation of the sonic materialization of social identity, the book outlines the full multiplicity of Hmong music-making through a fascinating account of music, minorities, and the state in a post-socialist context.

Ngày 3/5/2015 do sơ xuất trong quá trình vận hành máy, H đã gây ra hậu quả sản phẩm của công ty bị sai kỹ thuật, giá trị thiệt hại của lô sản phẩm lên tới 35 triệu. Trước sự việc này, công ty ra quyết định tạm đình chỉ công việc đối với anh H. Trong thời gian tạm đình chỉ anh H được tạm ứng 40% tiền lương. Sau 2 tháng tạm đình chỉ công việc, H được triệu tập đến họp để xử lý kỉ luật nhưng không đến. Ngày 8/7/2015 sau 3 lần thông báo bằng văn bản mà H vẫn không đến giám đốc công ty ra quyết định sa thải H với lý do H có hành vi gây thiệt hại nghiêm trọng đến tài sản của công ty đồng thời yêu cầu H bồi thường toàn bộ thiệt hại của lô hàng. Quyết định này có hiệu lực từ ngày 9/7/2015 Tuy nhiên, ngày 25/7/2015 H mới nhận được quyết định. H đã làm đơn khởi kiện ra Tòa án. Hỏi: 1. Tran offers the first English translation of the recently discovered 1752 manuscript Tam Giáo Chu Vong (The Errors of the Three Religions). Structured as a dialogue between a Christian priest and a Confucian scholar, this anonymously authored manuscript paints a rich picture of the three traditional Vietnamese religions: Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism. The work explains and evaluates several religious beliefs, customs, and rituals of eighteenth-century Vietnam, many of which are still in practice today.
