"Adam Elsheimer is first recorded in 1600 and by 1610 he was dead. But Elsheimer was influential on the coming century to a degree out of all proportion to his brief career and small output. Above all, he revolutionised the handling of light in landscapes and interiors, introducing novel ways of handling complex narratives as well as inventing new subject matter in painting." "Although his importance has always been recognised, appreciation of the artist has been hampered by a lack of good reproductions. This book offers for the first time a host of lavish colour details from his paintings that demonstrate Elsheimer's extraordinarily fine touch and feeling. This major study, the first to appear in English for nearly thirty years, accompanies a landmark exhibition being held at the Stadelsches Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt, at the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh and at Dulwich Picture Gallery in London."--BOOK JACKET.

Roman Antiquities In Renaissance France 1515 65 written by Richard Cooper and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-08 with History categories.

Making use of new and original material based on firsthand sources, this book interrogates the vogue for collecting, discussing, depicting, and putting to political and cultural use Roman antiquities in the French Renaissance. It surveys a range of activity from the labours of collectors and patrons to royal entries, considers attacks on the craze for the antique, and sets literary instances among a much wider spectrum of artistic endeavour. While Renaissance collecting and antiquarianism have certainly been the object of critical scrutiny, this study brings disparate fields into a single focus; and it examines not only areas of antiquarian expertise and interest (such as statues, coins, and books), but also important individual historical figures. The opening chapters deal with the role played in Rome by French ambassadors, who sent back antiques to collectors at court, who in the person of Jean Du Bellay, undertook excavations, and assembled a major personal collection, which was housed in a new villa in the ruined Baths of Diocletian. The volume includes a valuable appendix, which presents in transcription catalogues of the collections of Cardinal Jean du Bellay.

"The semitones have deserted us, that were near. Each color has made itself strong, twice pure, as though born of itself. She said, 'Look, blood is flowing, you dip your finger in it, you sense the syllables as they pass, skull then arm then finally hand, listen: yes, the eye sees, but most of all it illuminates, it is light as much as daylight is.' The world, unforgivable." Jamme is also the editor of Rene Char's complete works and an independent art curator. A chapbook of his work, EXTRACT FROM THE LIFE OF A BEETLE, previously published by Black Square Editions, is also available from SPD.
