"Claire's Workbook- Music Theory and Exercises - for all instruments. "This book was written by a young lady with several year's teaching experience - you can learn to play the keyboard and piano by yourself. Comes with easy DIY exercises and modern clear layout without irrelevant icons or sketches. You can use this book for formal music exams or recreation,e.g. play all those pop tunes on sheet music you ever wanted to play. Also comes with a free CD-ROM so you can print all your own piano music. Claires Workbook has evolved over 15 years teaching experience with students from 4 to 72 years of age, and originally started as single-sheet handouts developed on computer for use during class. Over the years, these were improved and developed, and then eventually bound together to help students organize their work. Thus the workbook concept was invented, where real students in a class environment inspired the handouts where active feedback and suggestions abounded and continual improvements made based upon helping different students with widely differing abilities, backgrounds, ages and experience. Thus the workbook was not developed in isolation but as an active set of solutions to the challenge of explaining the various aspects that constitute the Theory of Music. This collection now addresses most of the typical theory requirements of the major examining boards of music, covering from introductory to the next successive stages (Grades 1 to 2/3 depending on the examining board): it must be emphasized however that the workbook endeavours to introduce theory concepts gradually and in stages and to help a novice to read and understand notation and theory rather than merely satisfying a particular boards requirements exclusively. While teacher guidance is always advisable to obtain the best from the workbook, it has also been designed such that the more ambitious student can progress with the minimum of supervision, whether in a formal class, school or privately, or working at home under his or her own rate. The teaching pages are liberally interspersed with exercise pages to reinforce the concepts introduced. More difficult concepts such as time-signatures and tones/semitones are dealt with diagrammatically. The book has a glossary of Italian terms at the back, along with daily practice pieces. A few easy-play carols have been included in the appendix along with well-known and traditional pieces for practice. This is the pocket-size edition (21 x 15 cm) of the larger workbook.

Sounding Emerging Media written by Claire Fitch and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-19 with Games & Activities categories.

Sounding Emerging Media details a practice-based approach to sonic art and electroacoustic composition, drawing on methodologies inspired by the production of electronic literature, and game development. Using the structural concepts identified by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, the book is based around ideas related to labels such as Assemblage, Strata, Smooth and Striated Space, Temporal Space and, The Fold. The processes employed to undertake this research involved the creation of original texts, the development of frameworks for improvisation, the use of recordings within the process and implementation of techniques drawn from the practices of electroacoustic composition, and the use of ideas borrowed from electronic literature, publishing and game development. The results have helped to shape a compositional style which draws on these processes individually or collectively, drawing on practice often seen in game development, visual scores and composition using techniques found in electroacoustic music. Providing a journey through the landscape of emerging digital media, Sounding Emerging Media envisages a world where the composer/user/listener all become part of a continuum of collective artistry. This book is the ideal guide to the history and creation of audio for innovative digital media formats and represents crucial reading for both students and practitioners, from aspiring composers to experienced professionals.

“ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I'VE READ IN RECENT YEARS. THOUGHT PROVOKING, IMAGINATIVE AND PACKS A HELL OF AN EMOTIONAL PUNCH.” —Adrian Tchaikovsky, author of Children of Time From one of the most imaginative writers of her generation comes an extraordinary vision of the future… Ven was once a holy man, a keeper of ancient archives. It was his duty to interpret archaic texts, sorting useful knowledge from the heretical ideas of the Burning Age—a time of excess and climate disaster. For in Ven's world, such material must be closely guarded so that the ills that led to that cataclysmic era can never be repeated. But when the revolutionary Brotherhood approaches Ven, pressuring him to translate stolen writings that threaten everything he once held dear, his life will be turned upside down. Torn between friendship and faith, Ven must decide how far he's willing to go to save this new world—and how much he is willing to lose. “A riveting tale of subterfuge and deadly self-indulgence” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) from award-winning author Claire North, Notes from the Burning Age puts dystopian fiction in a whole new light. Orientalism And Representations Of Music In The Nineteenth Century British Popular Arts written by Claire Mabilat and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-05 with Music categories.

Representations of music were employed to create a wider 'Orient' on the pages, stages and walls of nineteenth-century Britain. This book explores issues of orientalism, otherness, gender and sexuality that arise in artistic British representations of non-European musicians during this time, by utilizing recent theories of orientalism, and the subsidiary (particularly aesthetic and literary) theories both on which these theories were based and on which they have been influential. The author uses this theoretical framework of orientalism as a form of othering in order to analyse primary source materials, and in conjunction with musicological, literary and art theories, thus explores ways in which ideas of the Other were transformed over time and between different genres and artists. Part I, The Musical Stage, discusses elements of the libretti of popular musical stage works in this period, and the occasionally contradictory ways in which 'racial' Others was represented through text and music; a particular focus is the depiction of 'Oriental' women and ideas of sexuality. Through examination of this collection of libretti, the ways in which the writers of these works filter and romanticize the changing intellectual ideas of this era are explored. Part II, Works of Fiction, is a close study of the works of Sir Henry Rider Haggard, using other examples of popular fiction by his contemporary writers as contextualizing material, with the primary concern being to investigate how music is utilized in popular fiction to represent Other non-Europeans and in the creation of orientalized gender constructions. Part III, Visual Culture, is an analysis of images of music and the 'Orient' in examples of British 'high art', illustration and photography, investigating how the musical Other was visualized.

American Music Librarianship written by Carol June Bradley and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-13 with Music categories.

The literature of American music librarianship has been around since the 19th century when public libraries began to keep records of player-piano concerts, significant donations of books and music, and suggestions for housing music. As the 20th century began, American periodicals printed more and more articles on increasingly specialized topics within music studies. Eventually books were developed to aid the music librarian; their publication has continued over the course of nearly a century. This book reflects the great diversity of the literature of music librarianship. The main resources included are items of historical interest, descriptions of individual collections, catalogues of collections, articles describing specific library functions, record-related subjects, bibliographies designed for music library use, literature from Canada and Britain when relevant to U.S. library practices, key discographies, and information on specialized music research. The material is ordered by topic and indexed by author, subject, and library name.

Public Memory And The Television Series Outlander written by Valerie Lynn Schrader and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-12-30 with Performing Arts categories.

Using rhetorical criticism as a research method, Public Memory and the Television Series Outlander examines how public memory is created in the first four seasons of the popular television show Outlander. In this book, Valerie Lynn Schrader discusses the connections between documented history and the series, noting where Outlander's depiction of events aligns with documented history and where it does not, as well as how public memory is created through the use of music, language, directorial and performance choices, and mise-en-scéne elements like filming location, props, and costumes. Schrader also explores the impact that Outlander has had on Scottish tourism (known as the “Outlander effect”) and reflects on whether other filming locations or depicted locations may experience a similar effect as Outlander’s settings move from Scotland to other areas of the world. Furthermore, Schrader suggests that the creation of public memory through the television series encourages audiences to learn about history and reflect on current issues that are brought to light through that public memory.
