This textbook is a revised second edition of a "classic" on co-operative law, which has been translated into more than 20 languages. The book integrates an analysis of the 1995 Statement of the Co-operative Identity of the International Co-operative Alliance and the impact of political, economic, and social changes over the past 40 years. The original pattern of the book remains unchanged: Two questions are answered for each of the identified principles: What is the meaning of this co-operative principle? How is this principle translated into co-operative legislation? In this newest edition, two additional questions are discussed and answered for each of the chapters: What are the new development trends and what are the new rules in co-operative legislation? (Series: Economy: Research and Science / Wirtschaft: Forschung und Wissenschaft - Vol. 34) [Subject: Co-operative Law]

Replete with case studies, Waking the Asian Pacific Cooperative Potential applies a novel theoretical framework to aid in understanding meaningful change in cooperative firms, mutual firms, collectives, and communes, focusing in particular on the underexamined Asia Pacific region. It explores the common, albeit competing, objectives of transformational cooperatives that deliver a range of social benefits and corporative coops where the cooperative exhibits the characteristics of a competitive investor firm. The book provides examples of successful cooperatives in eleven countries across the Asia Pacific and reviews the theoretical framework of cooperatives, including issues pertaining to socio-economic, politico-legal, and domestic and international factors. Waking the Asian Pacific Co-operative Potential provides early-career researchers and graduate students with a systematic resource of cooperatives in the Asia Pacific, highlighting core lessons from case studies regarding the ideal role of cooperatives in a modern economy and on the enabling factors of the role of the state, the market potential for scale-up, the mitigation of poverty, and civil society. Provides numerous case studies drawn from successful co-operative organizations across the Asia Pacific region Advances a theoretical framework to help readers access and understand the reasons for co-operative success in the Asia Pacific region Develops tools for practitioners to establish effective co-operatives and restructure them to optimal goals

Co-operatives provide a different approach to organizing business through their ideals of member ownership and democratic practice. Every co-operative member has an equal vote regardless of his or her own personal capital investment. The contemporary significance of co-operatives was highlighted by the United Nations declaration of 2012 as the International Year of Co-operatives. This book provides an international perspective on the development of co-operatives since the mid-nineteenth century, exploring the economic, political, and social factors that explain their varying fortunes and transformation into different forms. By looking at what co-operatives are; how they have changed; the developments as well as the persecutions of the co-operative movement; and how it is an important force in promoting development and self-sufficiency in non-industrialized areas, this book provides valuable insight not only to academics, but also to practitioners and policy makers.

Co Operative Enterprise Building A Better World written by Terry MacDonald and has been published by First Edition Design Pub. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-01 with Business & Economics categories.

The purpose of this book is to introduce you in considerable detail to what we call the ‘co-operative enterprise’, and to explore with you the broader question of why co-operatives are important in today’s world. This is not a “how to” book, in the normal sense. It is however (we hope) an excellent foundation upon which to broaden your understanding and appreciation of co-operative forms of enterprise, not only in your country - but around the globe. You will learn why co-operation works and also see why sometimes it may not work, and you will learn about best practices and success factors within co-operatives. If you are an employee, a manager, or an elected official within a co-operative, you will also learn about why and how leadership and management effectiveness are different in co-operative forms of enterprise. The book is divided into five parts. The first part is called “Setting the Stage”, and contains two chapters. The first chapter introduces the reader to the nature of co-operation, while the second chapter looks at the evolution of co-operation all the way from social movements to business systems of enterprise. The second part is entitled “How Co-operatives Are Different” and begins by presenting what we call the “co-operative value proposition”. The third and fourth chapters provide details on the difference between the co-operative sector, the private sector, and the public sector. Chapter Five describes why and how leadership and management effectiveness are different in a co-operative. The third part is entitled “Co-operatives Today” and it includes three chapters. Chapter Six describes “National and International Co-operative Development”, and Chapter Seven looks at the role co-operatives have played and are playing in “Wealth Creation, Community Development ,and Poverty Reduction” around the globe. The last chapter in this section describes the “Pivotal Role for Government in Enabling Development.” Part Four is entitled “Building a Better World” and it includes three chapters. The first chapter, Chapter Nine is entitled “Some Strategies and Tactics for Success”. Chapter Ten is entitled “Towards a World Vision for Co-operatives”. Chapter Eleven is “The Challenges and Opportunities Ahead”, and it invites and challenges readers - and all co-operators - to seriously imagine what the future might be for co-operative forms of enterprise. No small undertaking to be sure! Just for fun we have included a final part called “Everything Else Co-operative” into which we cram additional co-operative website links and interesting content which we think you might like and which didn’t exactly seem to fit anywhere else. You decide! We also include some of our parting after thoughts (post scripts) in this section.

Building Co Op Power written by Janelle Cornwell and has been published by Levellers Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Business & Economics categories.

Building Co-operative Power explores strategies from the Connecticut River Valley as a guide and inspiration for developing a regional co-operative economy based on a vibrant and engaged worker co-op sector. It speaks directly to obstacles and opportunities for making worker co-operatives an increasingly important part of the U.S. economy. The authors relay practical insights on co-op governance, communication, conflict and inter-cooperation. These are highlighted by cautionary tales and sagas of personal transformation. “They explore the problems and triumphs of cooperatives, through practical, yet visionary eyes. … In the course of their exploration, they visit a great variety of co-ops in the Connecticut River Valley region, and discuss their successes and problems unflinchingly. This type of on-the-ground regional thinking is a key to developing cooperative networks that are deep and sustainable.” John Curl, author of For All the People: Uncovering the Hidden History of Cooperation, Cooperative Movements and Communalism in America “Building Cooperative Power is a must read for anyone who wants to take back the economy for people and the planet! … The diversity of cooperatives, the ingenuity of enterprise strategies, and the humane care for self, others and environments showcased in this book is impressive, instructive and visionary.” — J.K. Gibson-Graham, author of The End of Capitalism (as we knew it) and A Postcapitalist Politics “… the behind-the-scenes look into this organizing process they offer here is a valuable and rare resource for organizers and communities engaged in the work of democratizing wealth.” — Gar Alperovitz, author of What Then Must We Do? Democratizing Wealth and Building a Community Sustaining Economy from the Ground Up “A thoughtful, inspiring account of the nitty-gritty process of building a democratic economy from the bottom up. Read it and cooperate!” —Nancy Folbre, author of Greed, Lust and Gender: A History of Economic Ideas
