Graphs On Surfaces written by Joanna A. Ellis-Monaghan and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-28 with Mathematics categories.

Graphs on Surfaces: Dualities, Polynomials, and Knots offers an accessible and comprehensive treatment of recent developments on generalized duals of graphs on surfaces, and their applications. The authors illustrate the interdependency between duality, medial graphs and knots; how this interdependency is reflected in algebraic invariants of graphs and knots; and how it can be exploited to solve problems in graph and knot theory. Taking a constructive approach, the authors emphasize how generalized duals and related ideas arise by localizing classical constructions, such as geometric duals and Tait graphs, and then removing artificial restrictions in these constructions to obtain full extensions of them to embedded graphs. The authors demonstrate the benefits of these generalizations to embedded graphs in chapters describing their applications to graph polynomials and knots. Graphs on Surfaces: Dualities, Polynomials, and Knots also provides a self-contained introduction to graphs on surfaces, generalized duals, topological graph polynomials, and knot polynomials that is accessible both to graph theorists and to knot theorists. Directed at those with some familiarity with basic graph theory and knot theory, this book is appropriate for graduate students and researchers in either area. Because the area is advancing so rapidly, the authors give a comprehensive overview of the topic and include a robust bibliography, aiming to provide the reader with the necessary foundations to stay abreast of the field. The reader will come away from the text convinced of advantages of considering these higher genus analogues of constructions of plane and abstract graphs, and with a good understanding of how they arise.

A complete, self-contained introduction to a powerful and resurgingmathematical discipline . Combinatorial Geometry presents andexplains with complete proofs some of the most important resultsand methods of this relatively young mathematical discipline, started by Minkowski, Fejes Toth, Rogers, and Erd???s. Nearly halfthe results presented in this book were discovered over the pasttwenty years, and most have never before appeared in any monograph.Combinatorial Geometry will be of particular interest tomathematicians, computer scientists, physicists, and materialsscientists interested in computational geometry, robotics, sceneanalysis, and computer-aided design. It is also a superb textbook, complete with end-of-chapter problems and hints to their solutionsthat help students clarify their understanding and test theirmastery of the material. Topics covered include: * Geometric number theory * Packing and covering with congruent convex disks * Extremal graph and hypergraph theory * Distribution of distances among finitely many points * Epsilon-nets and Vapnik--Chervonenkis dimension * Geometric graph theory * Geometric discrepancy theory * And much more

Universal Algebra has become the most authoritative, consistently relied on text in a field with applications in other branches of algebra and other fields such as combinatorics, geometry, and computer science. Each chapter is followed by an extensive list of exercises and problems. The "state of the art" account also includes new appendices (with contributions from B. Jónsson, R. Quackenbush, W. Taylor, and G. Wenzel) and a well selected additional bibliography of over 1250 papers and books which makes this an indispensable new edition for students, faculty, and workers in the field.

Praise for the First Edition "Anyone interested in getting an introduction to Ramsey theorywill find this illuminating..." --MAA Reviews Covering all the major concepts, proofs, and theorems, theSecond Edition of Ramsey Theory is the ultimate guideto understanding every aspect of Shelah's proof, as well asthe original proof of van der Waerden. The book offers a historicalperspective of Ramsey's fundamental paper from 1930 andErdos' and Szekeres' article from 1935, while placingthe various theorems in the context of T. S. Motzkin'sthought on the subject of "Complete Disorder isImpossible." Ramsey Theory, Second Edition includes new and excitingcoverage of Graph Ramsey Theory and Euclidean Ramsey Theory andalso relates Ramsey Theory to other areas in discrete mathematics. In addition, the book features the unprovability results of Parisand Harrington and the methods from topological dynamics pioneeredby Furstenburg. Featuring worked proofs and outside applications, RamseyTheory, Second Edition addresses: * Ramsey and density theorems on both broad and meticulousscales * Extentions and implications of van der Waerden's Theorem, the Hales-Jewett Theorem, Roth's Theorem, Rado'sTheorem, Szemeredi's Theorem, and the Shelah Proof * Regular homogeneous and nonhomogeneous systems andequations * Special cases and broader interdisciplinary applications ofRamsey Theory principles An invaluable reference for professional mathematicians workingin discrete mathematics, combinatorics, and algorithms, RamseyTheory, Second Edition is the definitive work on thesubject.

An entire new chapter on the current forefront of research has been added. Except for this new chapter and the correction of a few misprints, the basic material and presentation of the first edition has been maintained. At the end of each chapter the reader will also find notes with further bibliographical information.

Quantitative Stochastic Homogenization And Large Scale Regularity written by Scott Armstrong and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-09 with Mathematics categories.

The focus of this book is the large-scale statistical behavior of solutions of divergence-form elliptic equations with random coefficients, which is closely related to the long-time asymptotics of reversible diffusions in random media and other basic models of statistical physics. Of particular interest is the quantification of the rate at which solutions converge to those of the limiting, homogenized equation in the regime of large scale separation, and the description of their fluctuations around this limit. This self-contained presentation gives a complete account of the essential ideas and fundamental results of this new theory of quantitative stochastic homogenization, including the latest research on the topic, and is supplemented with many new results. The book serves as an introduction to the subject for advanced graduate students and researchers working in partial differential equations, statistical physics, probability and related fields, as well as a comprehensive reference for experts in homogenization. Being the first text concerned primarily with stochastic (as opposed to periodic) homogenization and which focuses on quantitative results, its perspective and approach are entirely different from other books in the literature.
