Controlling Chaos achieves three goals: the suppression, synchronisation and generation of chaos, each of which is the focus of a separate part of the book. The text deals with the well-known Lorenz, Rössler and Hénon attractors and the Chua circuit and with less celebrated novel systems. Modelling of chaos is accomplished using difference equations and ordinary and time-delayed differential equations. The methods directed at controlling chaos benefit from the influence of advanced nonlinear control theory: inverse optimal control is used for stabilization; exact linearization for synchronization; and impulsive control for chaotification. Notably, a fusion of chaos and fuzzy systems theories is employed. Time-delayed systems are also studied. The results presented are general for a broad class of chaotic systems. This monograph is self-contained with introductory material providing a review of the history of chaos control and the necessary mathematical preliminaries for working with dynamical systems.

Controlling Chaos written by Tomasz Kapitaniak and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996-07-29 with Mathematics categories.

More than two decades of intensive studies on non-linear dynamics have raised questions on the practical applications of chaos. One possible answer is to control chaotic behavior in a predictable way. This book, oneof the first on the subject, explores the ideas behind controlling chaos. Controlling Chaos explains, using simple examples, both the mathematical theory and experimental results used to apply chaotic dynamics to real engineering systems. Chuas circuit is used as an example throughout the book as it can be easily constructed in the laboratory and numerically modeled. The use of this example allows readers to test the theories presented. The text is carefully balanced between theory and applications to provide an in-depth examination of the concepts behind the complex ideas presented. In the final section, Kapitaniak brings together selected reprinted papers which have had a significant effect on the development of this rapidly growing interdisciplinary field. Controlling Chaos is essential reading for graduates, researchers, and students wishing to be at the forefront of this exciting new branch of science. * Uses easy examples which can be repeated by the reader both experimentally and numerically * The first book to present basic methods of controlling chaos * Includes reprinted papers representing fundamental contributions to the field * Discusses implementation of chaos controlling fundamentals as applied to practical problems

Chaos control refers to purposefully manipulating chaotic dynamical behaviors of some complex nonlinear systems. There exists no similar control theory-oriented book available in the market that is devoted to the subject of chaos control, written by control engineers for control engineers. World-renowned leading experts in the field provide their state-of-the-art survey about the extensive research that has been done over the last few years in this subject. The new technology of chaos control has major impact on novel engineering applications such as telecommunications, power systems, liquid mixing, internet technology, high-performance circuits and devices, biological systems modeling like the brain and the heart, and decision making. The book is not only aimed at active researchers in the field of chaos control involving control and systems engineers, theoretical and experimental physicists, and applied mathematicians, but also at a general audience in related fields.

This volume contains the proceedings of the US-Australia workshop on Control and Chaos held in Honolulu, Hawaii from 29 June to 1 July, 1995. The workshop was jointly sponsored by the National Science Foundation (USA) and the Department of Industry, Science and Technology (Australia) under the US-Australia agreement. Control and Chaos-it brings back memories of the endless reruns of "Get Smart" where the good guys worked for Control and the bad guys were associated with Chaos. In keeping with current events, Control and Chaos are no longer adversaries but are now working together. In fact, bringing together workers in the two areas was the focus of the workshop. The objective of the workshop was to bring together experts in dynamical systems theory and control theory, and applications workers in both fields, to focus on the problem of controlling nonlinear and potentially chaotic systems using limited control effort. This involves finding and using orbits in nonlinear systems which can take a system from one region of state space to other regions where we wish to stabilize the system. Control is used to generate useful chaotic trajectories where they do not exist, and to identify and take advantage of useful ones where they do exist. A controller must be able to nudge a system into a proper chaotic orbit and know when to come off that orbit. Also, it must be able to identify regions of state space where feedback control will be effective.

Chaos occurs widely in engineering and natural systems. Historically it has been noted only as irregular or unpredictable behaviour and often attributed to random external influences. Further studies have shown that chaotic phenomena are completely deterministic and characteristic for typical nonlinear systems. These studies posed the question of the practical applications of chaos. One of the possible answers is to control chaotic behaviour in such a way as to make it predictable. Recently there have been examples of the potential usefulness of chaotic behaviour and this has caused growing interest among engineers and applied scientists. In this book the new mathematical ideas in nonlinear dynamics are described such that engineers can apply them in real physical systems.
