Handbook Of Generalized Convexity And Generalized Monotonicity written by Nicolas Hadjisavvas and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-01-16 with Mathematics categories.

Studies in generalized convexity and generalized monotonicity have significantly increased during the last two decades. Researchers with very diverse backgrounds such as mathematical programming, optimization theory, convex analysis, nonlinear analysis, nonsmooth analysis, linear algebra, probability theory, variational inequalities, game theory, economic theory, engineering, management science, equilibrium analysis, for example are attracted to this fast growing field of study. Such enormous research activity is partially due to the discovery of a rich, elegant and deep theory which provides a basis for interesting existing and potential applications in different disciplines. The handbook offers an advanced and broad overview of the current state of the field. It contains fourteen chapters written by the leading experts on the respective subject; eight on generalized convexity and the remaining six on generalized monotonicity.

Convexity In The Theory Of Lattice Gases written by Robert B. Israel and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-08 with Science categories.

In this book, Robert Israel considers classical and quantum lattice systems in terms of equilibrium statistical mechanics. He is especially concerned with the characterization of translation-invariant equilibrium states by a variational principle and the use of convexity in studying these states. Arthur Wightman's Introduction gives a general and historical perspective on convexity in statistical mechanics and thermodynamics. Professor Israel then reviews the general framework of the theory of lattice gases. In addition to presenting new and more direct proofs of some known results, he uses a version of a theorem by Bishop and Phelps to obtain existence results for phase transitions. Furthermore, he shows how the Gibbs Phase Rule and the existence of a wide variety of phase transitions follow from the general framework and the theory of convex functions. While the behavior of some of these phase transitions is very "pathological," others exhibit more "reasonable" behavior. As an example, the author considers the isotropic Heisenberg model. Formulating a version of the Gibbs Phase Rule using Hausdorff dimension, he shows that the finite dimensional subspaces satisfying this phase rule are generic. Originally published in 1979. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Non Connected Convexities And Applications written by G. Cristescu and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-05-31 with Mathematics categories.

Cristescu (mathematics, Aurel Vlaicu U. of Arad, Romania) and Lupsa (mathematics, Babes-Bolyai U. of Cluj-Napoca, Romania) propose two classifications of convexity properties for sets, both starting from the internal mechanism of defining them. The volume's 13 chapters cover the fields of non-connected convexity properties; convexity with respect to a set; convexity with respect to behaviors; convexity with respect to a set and two behaviors; convexities defined by means of distance functions; induced convexity; convexity defined by means of given functions; classification of the convexity properties; applications in pattern recognition; alternative theorems and integer convex sets; various types of generalized convex functions; applications in optimization; and applications in pharmacoeconomics. Written in charmingly clunky but fairly understandable English. Annotation copyrighted by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

Convexity And Concentration written by Eric Carlen and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-04-20 with Mathematics categories.

This volume presents some of the research topics discussed at the 2014-2015 Annual Thematic Program Discrete Structures: Analysis and Applications at the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications during the Spring 2015 where geometric analysis, convex geometry and concentration phenomena were the focus. Leading experts have written surveys of research problems, making state of the art results more conveniently and widely available. The volume is organized into two parts. Part I contains those contributions that focus primarily on problems motivated by probability theory, while Part II contains those contributions that focus primarily on problems motivated by convex geometry and geometric analysis. This book will be of use to those who research convex geometry, geometric analysis and probability directly or apply such methods in other fields.

Inequalities For Generalized Convex Functions written by Zvi Ziegler and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1969 with Convex functions categories.

A recently developed technique is summarized which is useful for the systematic study of linear inequalities valid for functions possessing certain 'convexity' properties. Some of the problems under current investigation are discussed, several new applications are listed and open problems are suggested.

A Course In Convexity written by Alexander Barvinok and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-11-19 with Mathematics categories.

Convexity is a simple idea that manifests itself in a surprising variety of places. This fertile field has an immensely rich structure and numerous applications. Barvinok demonstrates that simplicity, intuitive appeal, and the universality of applications make teaching (and learning) convexity a gratifying experience. The book will benefit both teacher and student: It is easy to understand, entertaining to the reader, and includes many exercises that vary in degree of difficulty. Overall, the author demonstrates the power of a few simple unifying principles in a variety of pure and applied problems. The prerequisites are minimal amounts of linear algebra, analysis, and elementary topology, plus basic computational skills. Portions of the book could be used by advanced undergraduates. As a whole, it is designed for graduate students interested in mathematical methods, computer science, electrical engineering, and operations research. The book will also be of interest to research mathematicians, who will find some results that are recent, some that are new, and many known results that are discussed from a new perspective.
