Nacido en la provincia de Ja?n, Espa?a, en fecha incierta, era de noble origen. Estuvo en los momentos de la fundaci?n de Cali y Popay?n y de esta ?ltima ciudad fue uno de sus primeros alcaldes. El mariscal Jorge Robledo figura en la historia de Colombia como el "conquistador de Antioquia". Particip? con el ej?rcito de Sebasti?n de Belalc?zar en la conquista del Per?, de donde pas? al sur de la actual Colombia y a Cali; donde el gobernador Lorenzo de Aldana le dio orden de explorar la provincia de Anserma. Fund?, en 1539, la Villa de Santa Ana de los Caballeros, despu?s llamada Anserma. Pele? con los indios pozos, al vencerlos, sigui? hacia P?cora, donde combati? con los paucuras y su cacique Piman?. Pas? a Arma donde venci? la fuerte resistencia de los indios que guerreaban. Se encamin? hacia Quimbaya con Suer de Nava, y el 9 de agosto de 1540 fund? San Jorge de Cartago. En 1542 Robledo parti? hacia Espa?a, y Pedro de Heredia lo acus? de usurpar sus fueros. Luego lo encarcel?, quit?ndole sus riquezas, y lo envi? a Espa?a procesado. All? Robledo fue absuelto de los cargos de usurpaci?n de jurisdicci?n entablados por Heredia en Cartagena, y recompensado con el t?tulo de mariscal. Regres? a Cartagena con su esposa Mar?a de Carvajal, y en 1546 parti? hacia Antioquia, donde fund? a Santa Fe de Antioquia y apres? al representante de Belalc?zar y se apoder? del gobierno. Trat? de hacer lo mismo con el mismo Belalc?zar, quien se encontraba en Cali, pero sin ?xito. Por medio de misiva y mandato del visitador Miguel D?az de Armend?riz, el emisario del mariscal Robledo entreg? al gobernador de Popay?n una carta en la que se ordenaba a Belalc?zar que no saliera de la ciudad de Cali y reconociera la autoridad de Robledo en Antioquia, a lo que ?ste se neg?. Belalc?zar arremeti? contra ?l, lo encontr? en la Loma de Pozo, y el 5 de octubre de 1546 lo conden? a muerte. La condena se ejecut? en el lugar, a garrote. Con ?l fueron ajusticiados el maestre de campo Hern?n Rodr?guez de Souza, Baltazar de Ledesma y Juan M?rquez Sanabria. Seg?n Pedro de Cieza de Le?n, se sepultaron los cuerpos y la cabeza de Robledo se expuso a modo de escarnio.
