It’s no revelation that in today’s world many people suffer from some form of spiritual crisis. But, fortunately, there is hope. In Spiritual Crisis: Surviving Trauma to the Soul, you’ll discover how you can reverse the impact of spiritual crisis and apply healing balm to the traumatized soul. A comprehensive, real-life approach to spiritual care, it gives you the understanding necessary to put a lid on the daily chaos that seeks to destroy those whose lives have been shattered by tragedy, terror, and disillusionment. Written from the perspective of a compassionate professional who has navigated the dark and turbulent waters of his own spiritual crises, Spiritual Crisis represents a loving cross-section of aid from the fields of pastoral theology, psychology, and health care. Christians and non-Christians alike will benefit from its frank approach to aiding troubled souls through the tough times of belief transition, loss of faith, and potentially damaging extremes in living and thinking. Specifically, you’ll read about: understanding the effects and roots of spiritual crisis and trauma coping with loss counteracting disillusionment with the church negotiating belief transitions dealing with religious burnout intervening in denominational identity crises Oftentimes, it’s hard to know what will make a loved one survive or succumb to the impact of seemingly insurmountable personal emergencies. However, this book is a “call to care” that will enable you to help others turn back the tide of debilitating hardship in their lives and restore the tempering unity of mind and body. Whether you’re a beginning pastoral counselor, a marriage and family therapist, or friend of a troubled loved one, Spiritual Crisis will show you and those you work with how to turn crisis into care.

The American comedienne Lily Tomlin once observed with surprise that we call it 'praying' when we talk to God and 'schizophrenia' when God talks back to us. In this book people speak about inner experiences in which they perceived themselves and the world so differently that they thought they were going mad. Experiences of existential voids, heights and depths, freezing wastes and silences, of pure energy, love and fear, oneness and chaos. They found no explanation in science or religion; traditional standards of normality and morality brought them no further than 'madness' and 'heresy'. From sheer necessity they learned to steer by a sort of inner compass, and began to tap unconventional resources. This gave their experience on balance the depth and dynamism of a spiritual transformation which they would not have wanted to miss. Since 1994 such spiritual crises have acquired an official place in psychiatric diagnostics, namely as non-pathological episodes. Knowledge and insight fall substantially short, however, both in professional circles and among the public at large. In this book the author shows how transpersonal psychology interprets such crises as the growing pains of human consciousness. This wider perspective transcends the traditional, individual frameworks of the life sciences, parallel to the earlier shift of classical mechanics to quantum physics. At a time that resounds with demands for meaningfulness, and which seems engrossed in a holistic model of reality, this book sets about giving a place within this perspective to the phenomenon of the spiritual crisis.

A feast of revealing narratives expose the amazing story of how people deal with critical points in personal transformation, also known as spiritual emergency. With the increase of interest in yoga, meditation, mental health recovery, and recovery from addiction there is renewed interest in care that is not based on medication as much as empathy and compassionate companionship. This book helps anyone who doesn't have a language to understand intense inner experiences and confuses them with mental illness. If you have felt disoriented by intense spiritual experiences this book will help you understand where you are and where you may be heading. It is a map of the journey of spiritual awakening written by a psychologist who knows the territory well. Reading it may make the difference between heading off to the hospital to get drugs to stop the symptoms or staying home and knowing you are OK. Just because you have had a conversation with your spirit guide, or talked to the spirit of someone who has passed away doesn't mean you are having a breakdown. It could mean you are having a breakthrough to a higher level of functioning. The author is a psychologist and knows the territory.

Crisis intervention/"Christ-is" intervention, Volume I, is a carefully researched guide for personal and professional growth that systematically enables an individual to shift from a crisis to healthy and valiant living. On a 25-year quest for the meaning of "self-value," the author/psychologist unveils the biblical origin and characteristics of "spiritual valueness." The relationship between spiritual crises and imbalances of values is biblically researched. Specific types of spiritual crises with their eight subtypes are explained so that individuals can assess these crises through practical applications and appropriate questionnaires. Drawing from principles and analogies in mathematics, chemistry, physics, and sports fitness training, Dr. Cosenza shows individuals in spiritual search how to shift the balances of their values on the spiritual seesaw of life so as to maintain spiritual valor in and out of crises. Using a step-wise spiritual fitness training model, he unfolds a spiritual model for crisis intervention or "Christ-is" intervention, which utilizes biblically based balance training exercises to prevent, evaluate, and correct particular critical conditions This unique form of spiritual fitness has major applications for individuals in need as well as spiritual leaders, mental health professionals, pastoral counseling, and health/fitness trainers.

Mark Excel received the Lord at the age of 5. At this age, he used to gather people and tell them some mysteries about the kingdom of God and many, young and old, used to be drawn to him to hear his word. He declared to his father's wives and children that he was not from them but from a mysterious abode known as Abasi-to. He became subsequently known by this name and to this day he is still being called "Abasi-to" by his family members. He was separated from his father for three years between 1967 and 1970 due to the civil war in his country, Nigeria. During this time, he went through great adversity and became a beggar, a period that he regards as "a part of his ministry training." He met his father briefly after the war in 1970 before he went to be with the Lord in 1973. The Mighty hand of God has been upon him from his mother's womb. Apostle Excel was saved to serve and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. He died and was taken to hell and heaven by the Lord. He was commanded by the Lord to, "Go and tell the world what you have seen." He and his wife preside over Voice of Freedom International Ministries, Inc., and Voice of Freedom School of Ministry, a missions and ministry oriented institution where they teach and train ministers and church workers. Apostle Excel holds a Doctorate degree in Theology. His teaching prowess is unparalleled. Called and commissioned by the Lord as an Apostle, he breaks new grounds and plants churches. His focus is missions, global evangelism, revival and deliverance. They co-host "Moment of Freedom" a regular TV program on channel 20. He is married to Pastor Ann Excel and they are blessed with six children and a grandchild: Wisdom, Blessing, Bright, God'spower, Gospel and Freedom. He resides in New York with his wife and children.

"Crisis espirituales" es un libro valiente, pues desmiente la visión que señala que el cristiano genuino permanece siempre vibrante delante de la presencia de Dios. El autor reconoce que sí existen momentos de desánimo y falta de fe en la caminata rumbo a la eternidad. Presenta una exposición realista de la vida cristiana mostrando que podemos tener la plena seguridad de la presencia de Dios, aunque no la estemos sintiendo.
