From award-winning comedian, director, writer, and producer David Steinberg comes the totally original, utterly blasphemous, and hysterically funny memoir of a young man who emerged from a traditional Jewish childhood to become an international star -- all because, it seems, he kept God in stitches. David Steinberg was raised in Winnipeg, Canada, by parents who expected little from him. And no wonder. Instead of studying Talmud in order to become a rabbi, he chose to major in Martin and Lewis with a minor in basketball. As David imagines the story of his life (since his success otherwise makes no sense), God one day spotted him on the playground and decided that this young man with no ambition could go far with His help. Sure enough, God soon had David on network TV and Broadway, and selling out nightclubs across the country -- as well as being pursued by hot starlets. The Book of David is David Steinberg's hilarious trip down memory lane, assuming that the lane has a biblical address. This wild riff on the Old Testament is guaranteed laughter.

The David, The Boy unit uses the Bible story from 1 Samuel 16:1-23, 17:20; 2 Samuel 5:1-12; and Psalm 23. The prophet Samuel anointed Saul as the first king of Israel and, for a time, Saul was a good king. While Saul was still serving as King, God told Samuel to anoint a new king from Jesse's family in Bethlehem. God surprised everyone by choosing the youngest of Jesse's eight sons, for David was a simple shepherd boy. As David grew he became known for his bravery, strength, and musical abilities. He was even asked to play his instrument for King Saul, who suffered from either physical or mental illnesses. Saul was so pleased with David that he appointed him an armor-bearer. The Philistines were a powerful tribe who were almost continually engaged in battle against the Hebrews. One day they brought out a courageous warrior, Goliath. Goliath challenged Saul's army: "Send one soldier from among you to fight me!" The Hebrew soldiers were afraid of this man, and their army froze before him. David, who was bringing food to his brothers in the army, was shocked to learn that no one would face Goliath. He believed God would be with him, and volunteered to take on this powerful man. They did not have armor small enough for David, so he faced Goliath unprotected. After choosing five small stones from the stream, he met Goliath with only his slingshot. With only one stone, he defeated the Philistine, and became a hero to his people. Children will have the opportunity to: learn and retell the boyhood stories of David; recognize that the stories of David are found in the book of 1 Samuel in the Old Testament; realize that God saw something in David that no one else could see; identify stories from David's childhood that reveal the characteristics that helped him become a great king; discover that everyone has God-given gifts, and that God cares more about what is on the inside than how we appear on the outside; study ways God uses ordinary men and women to accomplish God's work in the world. Nelson and has been published by University Press of America this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-12-10 with Philosophy categories.

Hume's 'New Scene of Thought,' is a defense of Hume's philosophical principles in the Treatise of Human Nature. Nelson shows that Hume's new philosophy was a uniquely original and profound work, a masterpiece in philosophical literature, and a work worthy of serious study and acceptance. Expounding on the meaning that Hume gives to his new science of man founded on an empirical foundation, it is shown that all the sciences were, in effect, nothing more than branches of 'introspective psychology.' The thesis of The Several faces of David Hume in The Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion is that Dialogues is a reflective philosophical autobiography of Hume himself. Every character represents Hume at some stage in his life: Pamphilus is Hume at fifteen, and Philo is Hume in his adult philosophical maturity. Cleanthes is Bishop Butler but also Hume, when Hume was under the sway of Butler's writings as a young man. Demea represents the orthodox religious views that Hume was raised on, which Hume rejected by his eighteenth year.
