The moral to this story may be that having special abilities, be they intellectual or physical, means that you'd better have control over your worst impulses on your worst day. Funny, scary and serving those who read it with the nightmare of A.I. gone wild taken straight from the headlines, Day Of The A.I. is a satirically entertaining addition to the wakeup calls needed for safeguards as artificial intelligence permeates our reality. Each "act" opens with quotes from a real warning made by Stuart Russell, University of California Computer Science Professor, in his testimony on the subject of A.I. regulation before the United States Senate on July 21, 2023. But this is no dry run-through. All the human characters in the story have plans in motion that are unexpectedly derailed by rapid A.I. expansion, forcing them into the main plotline. The early chapters open with overviews of A.I. progress as certain machines become not only "supermanagers'' of key industries but celebrities in their own right as well. At some point the top supermanagers start competing among themselves. Once a supermanager named ANU solves the world's hunger crisis, people feel great about giving A.I. ever more responsibility, with ominous and absurd consequences down the road. And this is no cast of ordinary people, though there are many "ordinary" things about them. There are two single fathers, one a politician with a genius step daughter who's a recluse, the other a gangster with a grown daughter given up at birth and a younger, estranged daughter who can't criticize him enough; a rising Gen Z politician; the bitter sister of a boy killed by police; and a deranged mail carrier. But there's something extraordinary about them. All have at least one disability, and all have at least one special ability. The public nicknames them "extrahumans." A tongue-in-cheek take on the world of superheroes, these aren't heroes or villains (though a couple would probably be classified that way by the law) but rather opportunistic individuals using their unusual abilities to subversively help themselves get through challenged lives. Nick Rock, the city councilman and paraplegic, has a gambling addiction and step daughter Riko Takahishi Rock suffers from a strange Japanese syndrome called hikikomori. Anna, Riko's slightly older and only friend, is a functioning alcoholic, a thief, and the daughter of gangster Solomon Grimm, who's showing signs of dementia. Solomon's other daughter Emma Garcia has no idea who her father is but she works for Nick and has Lupus. Young Henry Parker-Palmer, Nick's rival in the upcoming election, is wheelchair-bound with Duchene's muscular dystrophy. Zozibini Mattscott of Nigeria is blind. And poor Sue Grey not only has to deal with the many complications of hyperthyroidism, she's also obsessed with making cheaters pay a heavy price because of how her ex-husbands cheated on her. But if you think that a bunch of "extrahumans" are a match for the machines in this story (spoiler alert) they are not. Watching them be brought together and forced to try is the fun part. Obvious satirical touches along the way include the names of supporting characters like one of the geniuses behind A.I. whose moniker simply exchanges the first two letters of the name Buckminster Fuller. And there's a dumbfounded senator funded by the beef industry named "Lickenburger." Every chapter provides a new twist in the rise of the singularity and the effect on the people it leaves behind. When the singularity is finally achieved (spoiler alert: it is!) the world has been changed forever. But are we still in it? A breezy, ironic narrative makes it easy to move along through a fast-paced plot dovetailing the events leading up to the singularity. Lots of fun, laughs and informative, timely food for thought all in

The Artificial Intelligence Revolution by Louis A. Del Monte is a warning regarding the threat new artificial intelligence (AI) technology poses to the survival of humankind. Will the future come down to man versus machine, when machines become more intelligent than humans? Will an artificial intelligence robot be your friend or foe? Scientists are working relentlessly at improving AI technology for the benefit of man. Evolved technology is everywhere--smart TVs, smart phones, and even smart houses. One day the artificial intelligence of these machines will match our own intelligence--and one day it will exceed it. We will have reached the "singularity," a point in time like no other. Then what? Will machines continue to serve us as the balance tips in their favor? These questions are addressed rigorously, their potentialities extrapolated for one reason--the survival of humankind. Are "strong" AI machines (SAMs) a new form of life? Should SAMs have rights? Do SAMs pose a threat to humankind? Del Monte and other AI experts predict that AI capabilities will develop into SAMs with abilities far beyond what human beings can even fathom. Will they serve us, or will SAMs take an entirely different viewpoint? That question and many more are tackled by Del Monte in this sobering look at the The Artificial Intelligence Revolution. -- Provided by publisher.

Are robots going to take my job? How are smartphones affecting my kids? Do I need to worry about privacy when I get online or ask Siri for directions? Whatever questions you have about AI, The Age of AI gives you insights on how to navigate this brand-new world as you apply God's ageless truths to your life and future. We interact with artificial intelligence, or AI, nearly every moment of the day without knowing it. From our social media feeds to our smart thermostats and Alexa and Google Home, AI is everywhere--but how is it shaping our world? In The Age of AI, Jason Thacker, associate research fellow at the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, helps us navigate our digital age in this thoughtful exploration of the social, moral, and ethical challenges of our ongoing interactions with artificial intelligence. Applying God's Word to this new AI-empowered age, Thacker sheds light on: How Christian truth transforms the way we use AI How AI affects us individually, in our relationships, and in our society at large How to navigate the digital age wisely With theological depth and a wide awareness of the current trends in AI, Jason is a steady guide who reminds us that while technology is changing the world, it can't shake the foundations of the Christian faith. Praise for The Age of AI: "The Age of AI informs us and assists us in envisioning a future that is filled with tools, influences, opportunities, and challenges relating to artificial intelligence. While many may fear the unknown future before us, Jason Thacker presents the imperative need to always lift up the constancy of the image of God and the dignity of all human life as presented in the Holy Scriptures, the Bible. I am thankful Jason's book can help churches, pastors, theologians, and Christian leaders in all vocations to wrestle through this current topic, always being committed to what this book states profoundly: God-given dignity isn't ours to assign or remove." --Dr. Ronnie Floyd, president and CEO, Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee
