Exploring and understanding how medieval Christians perceived and constructed the figure of the Prophet Muhammad is of capital relevance in the complex history of Christian-Muslim relations. Medieval authors writing in Latin from the 8th to the 14th centuries elaborated three main images of the Prophet: the pseudo-historical, the legendary, and the eschatological one. This volume focuses on the first image and consists of texts that aim to reveal the (Christian) truth about Islam. They have been taken from critical editions, where available, otherwise they have been critically transcribed from manuscripts and early printed books. They are organized chronologically in 55 entries: each of them provides information on the author and the work, date and place of composition, an introduction to the passage(s) reported, and an updated bibliography listing editions, translations and studies. Surah Muḥammad (Arabic: سُـورَة مُـحَـمَّـد, "Chapter of Muhammad") is the 47th surah of The Holy Qur'an with 38 ayat. This thirty-eight verse chapter was revealed in Medina. En el momento de la revelación, los incrédulos habían logrado conducir al Profeta Muhammad, que la misericordia y las bendiciones de Dios sean sobre él, y sus seguidores fuera de La Meca, sin embargo, al hacerlo sellaron su propio destino. The Islamic view of Jesus lies between two extremes. The Jews, who rejected Jesus as a prophet, called him an imposter, while the Christians, on the other hand, considered him to be the son of God and worship him as such. Islam considers Jesus to be one of the greatest and most forbearing of prophets, in addition to Noah, Abraham, Moses and Muhammad, peace be upon them. Jesus is also considered to be the Messiah as well. This is in conformity with the Islamic view of the Oneness of God, the Oneness of Divine guidance, and the complementary role of the subsequent mission of God’s messengers. The message of God to humanity, which is to worship God and God alone and to live according to His instruction, was revealed to Adam (peace be upon him), who passed it on to his children. All the subsequent revelations to Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and, finally, Muhammad are in conformity with that message. Thus, Islam views any contradictions among revealed religions as man-made elements introduced into these religions. The position of Jesus in the three major creeds- Judaism, Christianity, and Islam- is not an exception. La visión islámica de Jesús se encuentra entre dos extremos. Los judíos, que rechazaron a Jesús como un profeta, lo llamaron un impostor, mientras que los cristianos, por otro lado, lo consideraron como el hijo de Dios y lo adoraron como tal. El Islam considera que Jesús es uno de los profetas más grandes y abrumadores, además de Noé, Abraham, Moisés y Mahoma, la paz sea con ellos. Jesús también es considerado como el Mesías también. Esto está en conformidad con la visión islámica de la Unidad de Dios, la Unidad de la guía Divina, y el papel complementario de la misión posterior de los mensajeros de Dios. El mensaje de Dios a la humanidad, que es adorar a Dios y a Dios solo y vivir de acuerdo con Sus instrucciones, se le reveló a Adán (la paz sea con él), quien se lo pasó a sus hijos. Todas las revelaciones posteriores a Noé, Abraham, Moisés, Jesús y, finalmente, Muhammad están en conformidad con ese mensaje.
