Hitler And The Germans written by Eric Voegelin and has been published by University of Missouri Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Annotation Between 1933 & 1938, Eric Voegelin published four books that expressly stated his opposition to the increasingly powerful Hitler regime. As a result, he was forced to leave his homeland in 1938. Twenty years later, he returned to Germany as a professor of political science at Ludwig-Maximilian University. Voegelin's homecoming allowed him the opportunity to voice once again his opinions on the Nazi regime & its aftermath. In 1964 at the University of Munich, Voegelin gave a series of memorable lectures on what he considered "the central German experiential problem" of his time: Adolf Hitler's rise to power, the reasons for it, & its consequences for post-Nazi Germany. For Voegelin, these questions demanded a scrutiny of the mentality of individual Germans & of the order of German society during & after the Nazi period. Hitler & the Germans, published here for the first time, offers Voegelin's most extensive & detailed critique of the Hitler era. Voegelin interprets this era in terms of the basic diagnostic tools provided by the philosophy of Plato & Aristotle, Judeo-Christian culture, & contemporary German-language writers like Heimito von Doderer, Karl Kraus, Thomas Mann, & Robert Musil. His inquiry uncovers a historiography that was substantially unhistoric: a German Evangelical Church that misinterpreted the Gospel, a German Catholic Church that denied universal humanity, & a legal process enmeshed in criminal homicide. Hitler & the Germans provides a profound alternative approach to the topic of the individual German's entanglement in the Hitler regime & its continuing implications. This comprehensive reading of the Nazi period has yet to be matched.

Fundamental Theology written by Heinrich Fries and has been published by CUA Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Religion categories.

Praise for the German edition: "A master listener, a master arguer, a master of ecumenical sensitivity, [Fries] is concerned to hand on an existential and reflected experience of the faith, and to make it comprehensible to other men and women as an answer to their questions about the meaning and direction of life . . . thus Fundamental Theology is not just a textbook, but also a book of faith." --Herder Korrespondenz Fundamental theology--with its traditional divisions of faith, revelation, and Church--studies the basic anthropological, philosophical, biblical, and historical foundations of theology. It is the place where theology's religious, intellectual, and cultural presuppositions are mapped out and where individuals can gain an understanding of what is at stake as Catholic theology moves toward its future. Unfortunately, however, theology is seldom taught today in this carefully structured way. Many students and readers of theology have little access to the philosophy and theology of the modern neoscholastic revival that made possible the achievements of the Second Vatican Council and its current reforms. Addressing this need, renowned theologian Heinrich Fries offers what is both a traditionally structured treatment of the basic issues of fundamental theology as they have been modified by Vatican II, and a study of the major ethical, religious, and cultural issues of the late twentieth century. In discussing the many influences at work in Catholic theology, Fries provides the background needed for understanding a bewildering variety of developments and movements, such as neothomism; transcendental thomism; Church reform under Vatican II and liturgical reform; liberation and political theology, and their sibling movements of feminist, womanist, and mujerista theology; inculturation and Christianity's shift from a Eurocentric to a World Church; ecumenism and interreligious dialogue; the tensions between traditionalists and progressives; and, finally, Catholicism's rapproachment with modernity and the challenges of postmodernism. Fries is uniquely qualified to write a fundamental theology. He personally contributed to the great achievements of the Second Vatican Council and since that time has played a leading role in the contemporary development of the theology of revelation and ecumenism. Fundamental Theology was originally published in German in 1985. Now available for the first time in English, it will be an important reference for all theological students and an interesting historical study on Catholic theology for general readers. Born in Germany in 1911, Heinrich Fries was professor at Tubingen and Munich. He resides in Germany and continues to work as a writer and speaker.

Jeremiah’s Scriptures focuses on the composition of the biblical book of Jeremiah and its dynamic afterlife in ancient Jewish traditions. Jeremiah is an interpretive text that grew over centuries by means of extensive redactional activities on the part of its tradents. In addition to the books within the book of Jeremiah, other books associated with Jeremiah or Baruch were also generated. All the aforementioned texts constitute what we call “Jeremiah's Scriptures.” The papers and responses collected here approach Jeremiah’s scriptures from a variety of perspectives in biblical and ancient Jewish sub-fields. One of the authors' goals is to challenge the current fragmentation of the fields of theology, biblical studies, ancient Judaism. This volume focuses on Jeremiah and his legacy.

Interaction between biblical study and the practical work of the church receives attention in this book. The author seeks biblical perspective on the problem of racial conflict. In New Testament times, the deepest conflict between groups was that between Jews and Gentiles. Ephesians 2:11-12 summarizes this conflict and its reconciliation in Jesus Christ. The book traces the history of the passage's interpretation from the early church to the present in order to clarify the current situation. It illustrates the significance of biblical scholarship for the practice of ministry.

This study reveals the hidden story of the secret book distribution program to Eastern Europe financed by the CIA during the Cold War. At its height between 1957 and 1970, the book program was one of the least known but most effective methods of penetrating the Iron Curtain, reaching thousands of intellectuals and professionals in the Soviet Bloc. Reisch conducted thorough research on the key personalities involved in the book program, especially the two key figures: S. S. Walker, who initiated the idea of a ?mailing project,? and G. C. Minden, who developed it into one of the most effective political and psychological tools of the Cold War. The book includes excellent chapters on the vagaries of censorship and interception of books by communist authorities based on personal letters and accounts from recipients of Western material. It will stand as a testimony in honor of the handful of imaginative, determined, and hard-working individuals who helped to free half of Europe from mental bondage and planted many of the seeds that germinated when communism collapsed and the Soviet bloc disintegrated.
