First published in 1995. Recent research indicates that there has been a steady increase in the number of patients seeking help with various sexual desire problems. The Sexual Desire Disorders, an exciting volume from one of the foremost authorities in the field of sex therapy and human sexuality, explores in-depth the human sexual response, with emphasis on various therapeutic approaches to the treatment of sexual dysfunctions and particular disorders of sexual desire. The book examines not only the historical perspectives of these disorders, but the most recent research, thinking, and acceptance of these problems as a real clinical phenomena. This volume focuses primarily on the dysfunctional regulation of sexual motivation. Dr. Kaplan applies her comprehensive, integrated, psychodynamically oriented sex therapy approach when addressing the etiology, clinical features, and diagnostic criteria of these disorders. The author also examines psychiatric disorders that can lead to a loss of sexual desire, as well as some organic causes, including medical conditions, drugs, and age. Finally, Sexual Desire Disorders presents over 30 case studies that cover treatment approaches for a wide variety of sexual desire disorders, ranging from hyperactive sexual desire in a married bisexual man to a loss of sexual desire due to infertility treatment.

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Medicine - Therapy, grade: 1, Egerton University, language: English, abstract: This essay proposes hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) as the psychological issue that can be addressed through web-based interventions. In retrospect, technological advancement has been one of the factors underpinning the expansion of the medical field. Over the years, new technological inventions have led to the introduction of new medical perspectives ranging from diagnosis, treatment and prevention of different health conditions and disorders. In the field of mental health, technological advancement seems to have augmented psychological treatment interventions, as well as the assessment of various aspects of different mental disorders. According to Ritterband et al., the evolution of web-based intervention platforms holds the potential for enhancing treatment for conditions in which patients show little interest seeking for treatment. In this context, it is worth noting that most interventions for mental disorders focus on behavioral modifications which, in turn plays an integral role in improving the underlying symptoms. On the other hand, health-related information websites have been found to be useful to patients. This has been evidenced by Pew Research Center (2002), in which surveys show that people’s knowledge on different health condition has been improved through internet education.

Document from the year 2018 in the subject Medicine - Gynecology, Andrology, grade: 1, Egerton University, language: English, abstract: In retrospect, sexual disorders have a significant impact on an individual’s quality of life. It is also apparent that these disorders bear immense significance to the clinical practice. Despite their impact, most physicians do not seem to be interested to engage in extensive discussion with patients regarding sexual desire problems. This phenomenon is, probably, attributable to several reasons including time constraints, lack of efficient therapeutic interventions and insufficient knowledge. One of the most debilitating sexual desire disorders is hypoactive sexual desire disorder. HSDD is also known as inhibited sexual desire. HSDD is characterized by decreased or absence of desire for sexual activity and sexual fantasies which causes interpersonal difficulties, as well as personal distress. In some circumstances, the diagnosis of HSDD exhibits co-morbidity to an underlying sexual dysfunction. However, this disorder is not exclusively attributed to the effects of any substance, pathology or another psychiatric disorder. Even though some clinical experts have hypothesized the causes of HSDD to be associated with biological imbalances, the pathophysiology of this disorder remains unknown. As such, efforts to develop a comprehensive treatment and management strategies have not achieved remarkable success. Therefore, this literature review aims at providing an overview of HSDD.

The idea of publishing this book, Hypoactive sexual desire disorder: impact on partners and repercussions on family life," was born trying to analyze the whole context and impact of this disorder. Hypoactive sexual desire is an actual health problem in our days, due to its high incidence in the general population. Stress, active jobs, busy life style, are more and more present in society, so intimacy, physical and mind closure are being ignored more and more. Fulfilled sexual activity, which generates satisfaction and security, and also closed interpersonal relationships, does not represent a sine qua non" condition for a normal, healthy individual life anymore. Because of current stressful activities, intimacy is being left behind. There is almost always something more important to do than to spend some quality time with your life partner. Unlike other papers about feminine sexual dysfunctions, this one shows tangible therapies, useful for specialists in sexual and reproductive health. Many times sexual dysfunctions lead to couple infertility, specialists having to treat the quality of sexual life too.

Desire Intrusive Thoughts written by Carol Edwards and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-18 with categories.

Follow Carol Edwards on her journey to discover if there is such a thing as bio-behavioural evidence to explain "desire" in sexual, religious and harm obsessions in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In the earlier sections of her book, Carol Edwards explains standard OCD, assessment, cognitive behavioural therapy and exposure-response prevention. In later sections, she delves into unwanted-sexual desire, also harming obsessions. She examines the "luring" towards evil for people who have religious obsessions and explores the distinction that confuses suicide-obsessive-thoughts with suicide ideation. Carol uncovers facts that unravel a bio-behavioural mystery and shares personal insights to lessen the impact on therapists who fear they have no more options to explore. She says, 'When the usual psychological treatments fail, there is a reason.' Finally, when all psychological therapies prove unsuccessful, one of the up-to-date and accepted treatment options now available is deep brain stimulation (DBS). Carol Edward's discusses how this fine-tuned method can work. 'This is a very demanding piece... I'm sure that you are onto something. I long puzzled about obsessions and addictions, not least in my own case!!" Professor Frederick. Toates, author of "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder" and "Biological Psychology"

Three Faces Of Desire written by Timothy Schroeder and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-08-12 with Philosophy categories.

To desire something is a condition familiar to everyone. It is uncontroversial that desiring has something to do with motivation, something to do with pleasure, and something to do with reward. Call these "the three faces of desire." The standard philosophical theory at present holds that the motivational face of desire presents its unique essence--to desire a state of affairs is to be disposed to act so as to bring it about. A familiar but less standard account holds the hedonic face of desire to reveal to true nature of desire. In this view, to desire something is to tend to pleasure if it seems that the desired state of affairs has been achieved, or displeasure if it seems otherwise, thus tying desire to feelings instead of actions. In Three Faces of Desire, Schroeder goes beyond actions and feelings to advance a novel and controversial theory of desire that puts the focus on desire's neglected face, reward. Informed by contemporary science as much as by the philosophical tradition, Three Faces of Desire discusses recent scientific discoveries that tell us much about the way that actions and feelings are produced in the brain. In particular, recent experiments reveal that a distinctive system is responsible for promoting action, on the one hand, and causing feelings of pleasure and displeasure, on the other. This system, the brain's reward system, is the causal origin of both action and feeling, and is the key to understanding the nature of desire.
