Dal confronto fra le politiche sui centri storici sviluppate in Italia e in Brasile emergono similitudini e diversità. In entrambi i Paesi, per portare a rigenerazione tale tipo di insediamenti, sono necessarie politiche materiali e sociali in grado di formare (o mantenere) una mixité di popolazioni (giovani, anziani, migranti, autoctoni, fasce sociali deboli e forti) e di attività anche innovative (pure a servizio dei territori circostanti) capaci di attrarre gli investimenti privati e di “guidare” il mercato verso trasformazioni vitali. In entrambi i Paesi, all'atto della rigenerazione di un centro storico, le amministrazioni si sono impegnate su problematiche analoghe che implicano, fra l'altro: la consapevolezza che tale rigenerazione si fonda su una stretta coniugazione tra azioni materiali (rivolte al recupero del patrimonio edilizio) e azioni immateriali (mirate alla valorizzazione delle risorse umane e delle tradizioni identitarie stratificate nei luoghi); la convinzione che intervenire in un centro storico significa anche “investire” nel territorio circostante (specie metropolitano); l'importanza del mercato immobiliare in tale tipo operazioni; la necessità di una spinta agli interventi di rigenerazione da parte del soggetto pubblico (riqualificazione degli spazi pubblici, incentivi ai privati, forme di defiscalizzazione) quale innesco di processi di riqualificazione a catena da parte dei privati.

Manuel Bandeira (Recife, Pernambuco, 1886 — Río de Janeiro, 1968) es uno de los más importantes líricos de Brasil, muy probablemente el primero si se acepta la fundada opinión de José Guilherme Merquior. Traductor, ensayista, crítico literario y poeta, Bandeira perteneció a la llamada «Generación de 1922» o «Primera Generación del Modernismo Brasileiro». Conocedor de la poesía de su país, del simbolismo francés, del romanticismo alemán y de la tradición portuguesa, cultivó un estilo personal que aderezó con una vasta cultura. Bandeira es autor de una amplia obra. Entre su producción poética cabe destacar A Cinza das Horas (1917), Carnaval (1919), O Ritmo Dissoluto (1924), Libertinagem (1930) y Estrela da noite (1936).
