This book is a sound science report about the consequences of pesticides to nature, health and environment. The book shares essential insights into the use of pesticides in agriculture, discusses the politics, rhetoric and profits involved, addresses the potential health and ecological risks of pesticides in our daily lives, and debates possible solutions. Does sustainable agriculture exist, and is agriculture without pesticides possible at all? Moreover, the author gives insight into his scientific work, the set-up of the experiments, and also writes about his very own experiences with the media and press after publication of his studies. For many years, Johann G. Zaller, an ecologist at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, and his team, have been researching applied chemicals and their effects on the environment. Their findings, together with relevant literature and media reports, are presented in this book, which offers a unique resource for anyone who wants to know the nature and background of pesticides and how we come into contact with them in our daily lives. The Imaginary Revolution written by Michael M. Seidman and has been published by Berghahn Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-08 with History categories.

The events of 1968 have been seen as a decisive turning point in the Western world. The author takes a critical look at "May 1968" and questions whether the events were in fact as "revolutionary" as French and foreign commentators have indicated. He concludes the student movement changed little that had not already been challenged and altered in the late fifties and early sixties. The workers' strikes led to fewer working hours and higher wages, but these reforms reflected the secular demands of the French labor movement. "May 1968" was remarkable not because of the actual transformations it wrought but rather by virtue of the revolutionary power that much of the media and most scholars have attributed to it and which turned it into a symbol of a youthful, renewed, and freer society in France and beyond.

Anthropology And Myth written by Claude Lévi-Strauss and has been published by Wiley-Blackwell this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1987 with Social Science categories.

The published work of Claude Levi-Strauss over the last three and a half decades has established him as one of the world′s most innovative anthropologists. Yet throughout this period he was maintaining a full taching commitment in Paris. The pieces in Anthropology and Myth illustrate (in his own words) ′the efforts, the tentative advances and retreats and now and again the achievements of a thought process during some thirty-two years that amount to a large propotion of an individual life and the span of a generation′. Levi-Strauss used to the lecture theatre as a workshop in which to try out and develop new ideas, and many of the familiar themes of his books will be found here: analysis of myth and ritual, totemism, kinship, marriage and social structure. Offering a unique glimpse of the genesis of such subjects throughout his teaching career, this book provides a sketchbook of the themes painted elsewhere in larger, more finished form, and thus forms a document of vital importance for the history of anthropological thought.

The world's population is ballooning, and most of Earth's new citizens will live in urban areas. Cities around the globe are already collectively occupied by billions of people with many of these metropolises and megalopolises lacking the organized, government-facilitated infrastructure of so-called "modern" cities in North America and Europe. Instead, residents build their own housing with whatever materials are available, using methods and standards that are sometimes dangerous-and other times ingenious. In fact, safety and health risks do not preclude self-built brilliance, nor vice versa.
