Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860) ist einer der populärsten Philosophen des 19. Jahrhunderts. Jahrhunderts, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: § 30 Nachdem wir die im ersten Buch als bloße Vorstellung, Objekt für ein Subjekt, dargestellte Welt im zweiten Buch von ihrer andern Seite betrachtet und gefunden haben, daß diese Wille sei, welcher allein als dasjenige sich ergab, was jene Welt noch außer der Vorstellung ist; so nannten wir, dieser Erkenntniß gemäß, die Welt als Vorstellung, sowohl im Ganzen als in ihren Theilen, die Objektität des Willens, welches demnach besagt: der Objekt, d.i. Vorstellung, gewordene Wille. Wir erinnern uns nun ferner, daß solche Objektivation des Willens viele, aber bestimmte Stufen hatte, auf welchen, mit gradweise steigender Deutlichkeit und Vollendung, das Wesen des Willens in die Vorstellung trat, d.h. sich als Objekt darstellte. In diesen Stufen erkannten wir schon dort Plato's Ideen wieder, sofern nämlich jene Stufen eben die bestimmten Species, oder die ursprünglichen, nicht wechselnden Formen und Eigenschaften aller natürlichen, sowohl unorganischen, als organischen Körper, wie auch die nach Naturgesetzen sich offenbarenden allgemeinen Kräfte sind. Diese Ideen also insgesammt stellen sich in unzähligen Individuen und Einzelheiten dar, als deren Vorbild sie sich zu diesen ihren Nachbildern verhalten. Die Vielheit solcher Individuen ist durch Zeit und Raum, das Entstehn und Vergehn derselben durch Kausalität allein vorstellbar, in welchen Formen allen wir nur die verschiedenen Gestaltungen des Satzes vom Grunde erkennen, der das letzte Princip aller Endlichkeit, aller Individuation und die allgemeine Form der Vorstellung, wie sie in die Erkenntniß des Individuums als solchen fällt, ist. Die Idee hingegen geht in jenes Princip nicht ein: daher ihr weder Vielheit noch Wechsel zukommt. The main body of the work states at the beginning that it assumes prior knowledge of Immanuel Kant's theories (see his "Critique of Pure Reason" ISBN: 9781537260051). Schopenhauer recommended that the student begin with the final Appendix (found in volume 3), titled "On the Fourfold Root of the Principle of Sufficient Reason" before the rest of the book. The first volume contains four Books, two on "The World as Will" and two on "The World as Idea," while the second and third volumes contain Supplementary material to each of the four books. The second volume also opens with an appendix to the four books, titled "Critique of the Kantian Philosophy," in which Schopenhauer rejects most of Kant's ethics and significant parts of his epistemology and aesthetics.
